so bulgaria loses its (arguably) best player only a few weeks before the tournament and wins their pool? i'd be very scared of them. very scared. haven't seen them play but i'm sure they're bringing it right now.

Wow, I hadn't realized that, but we have played them recently so we know what to expect. I still think we can take care of Italy in 3.

Heh, no, Bulgaria sucks. It's just the rest of their pool is worse. I'm guessing 3 of the semi-finalists and both of the finalists will come form Pool B.

A few details about BUL team: We lost not only our best player (Kaziiski) but also the starting setter (Zhekov) and the head coach Stoitchev (who is also Trento's ITA head coach) due to arguments with BUL Vball Fedaration chairman Lazarov. I am not Lazarov's fan however the way this situation developed was a clear "handtwist" - 3 weeks before the OG the players and the coach announced they would quit if Lazarov didn't resign......he didn't they quit. While I agree they must have valid reasons, it was an absolutely irresonsible act which hurt their teammates and fans. Anyway - BUL team is very young and unexperienced. All players are less than 25 (besides L and OPP Nikolov but he is a sub now), most of them closer to 20. They have great potential but consistency is not there yet (3 of the starters are practically debutants) . So in other words it is like we have 2 different teams and nobody knows which one will show up - we beat POL and ITA but we lost against ARG and were very close against AUS (in each game we had to overcome a 5-6 pts deficit). It is a "coin toss" and I keep my fingers crossed to see the "good one" showing up for the next 2 games
