Good for her. She deserves a break.

I bet her wrists and elbows and shoulders are just jagged shards of bone and gristle on the inside. Without her tireless dominant attacking from all over the court to mix things up, the rest of Russia's moonball offense would have been rendered ineffective years ago. Adapt or perish. Let her rest from her labors.

Could be whatever it was she was sniffing to remain conscious v. Brazil?
Seriously, she looked like she was going to pass out by the end of that match.

She's taking a "leave," leaving the door slightly ajar for a return...

See, Americans are much more sane about this. Logan, Lin, and all the other vets need a break after Beijing? That's fine. They all took '09 off and let the youngsters get some PT. (And for how roundly criticized he was back then, think of how much it's paying off for Hugh to be able to have Larson, Harmotto, Thompson, Barboza, Richards, etc. go through their growing pains back then).
Russians have to have this whole melodrama. Gamova could just say she's sitting out '13 and will see how her body feels in '14, but I guess she needs to out-mystify Sokolova

I am thinking Artemanova (Estes) is done.
