April 11, 2003 The 10th-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team lost 3-0 to Stanford Friday night, ending any hope for an MPSF playoff berth. Stanford won 30-23, 30-26, 30-26 in 81 minutes before 1,007 fans in Pauley Pavilion. The victory raised the Cardinal's record to 16-11 overall and 13-8 in MPSF play. The Bruins fell to 14-14, 9-12. Sophomore Jonathan Acosta led the Bruins with 12 kills and also added three block assists. Junior Chris Pena added seven kills (.375) and an ace. Sophomore Paul Johnson led the Bruins with five total blocks. Seniors Curt Toppel and Billy Strickland led Stanford with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Stanford limited UCLA to a hitting percentage of .183 and out-blocked the Bruins, 13-10.5. Although the Bruins served four aces, they committed 22 service errors. UCLA will play its final match of the 2003 season Saturday, Apr. 12 against Pacific at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
