Whatever happens tonight in Malibu with BYU and Pepperdine, Hawaii is assured of a third seed in the MPSF tourney. Long Beach State is also guarenteed the 8th seed. Pepperdine has to beat BYU to receive the top seed and vice versa, BYU has to beat Pepp again at home to be considered the top seed. What's interesting is the fourth to seventh seeds. Right now, the order is this: Stanford 13-8 Irvine 12-9 Pacific 12-9 Northridge 12-10
Stanford is at Irvine tonight and Pacific is at UCLA.
If Stanford beats Irvine, Stanford will finish at 14-8 and takes the 4th seed. If the Cards lose to Irvine, and Pacific beats UCLA, there could be a 3-way tie among these 3 teams (Stanford, Pacific and Irvine). By virtue of the tiebreaker, Stanford and/or Irvine will be 4th and 5th seeds, which they will be matched against each other anyway. Pacific will then be the 6th seed (and will face Hawaii). If Pacific loses to UCLA tonight, and Stanford beats Irvine, there will also be a 3-way tie for the 5th seed (in this case, Stanford is the 4th seed, the other 3 - Pacific, Irvine and Northridge will have a 3-way tie also for the 5-7 seeds). In this latter scenario, how will you seed the 3? Pacific lost two games to Irvine and beat Northridge twice. Northridge and Irvine split with 3-1 games. I'm confused. Can someone explain the tiebreaker rules?

Pretty sure Irvine gets #5 in your second scenario-the one that happened.
Irvine has the best head to head record of the 3. CSUN only has one win over uci. UOP has just 2, and irvine has 3 (2 vs. UOP and 1 v. CSUN). Then UOP gets 6 and csun 7.

Ms X, tiebreaker winners are determined in the following order (of importance): 1. head to head matches. 2. no. of games won against each other. 3. total points against each other.
