I will be very surprised if Hugh doesn't lead Minnesota to a conference title fairly soon. The Gophers closed the gap signiicantly during this past season. In a league of great coaching I think he has the brightest long term future. They had the talent to do it this year. The question is wether or not they believe they can do it. They looked scared against Penn State at times. I wasn't in West Lafayette, so perhaps there was things one could see live not noticeable on tv. But they didn't look scared to me, on tv. After getting the usual PSU beating in game one, they came back and routed PSU by the same score. Game 3 was a barn burner, could have gone either way, and may have been significantly impacted by an unnoticed lift. After PSU opened with a 5-0 run, they came back to win 13 of the next 18 points. After that, PSU stepped it up a gear and Minn had no answer, but I doubt it was because 3.5 games into the match, where to that point, Minn and PSU were almost dead even in total points, they finally said, oh my, that's PSU on the other side, we have to lose. Minn is a very good team, but PSU is better, witness the regular season won-loss record. Did Minn look defeated from the get-go when they played in Minneapolis? Yes, to me, they did. But at the regionals, I think they stepped up, played with heart, and came close to pulling off an upset.

This team is going to be very fun to watch in years to come. This year was a fantastic year and the Gophers went further than anyone had expected coming in. THe future is very bright!

But, in the return match at PSU, they looked much more confident. And, I think that carried over into the regional final match. It would have interesting to see what would have happened if MN could have held on and won the third set. But, Penn State is where they are because they were able to raise their game enough to win.

What do you mean jump serve? Like a jump float, or topsin jump like Daly, Harms, Hancock, Wittman, etc? Because a year ago when I watched her she had a jump float. I sure hope she's developed a topsin jumper! Where did you watch her? Well, I saw her few weeks ago in a Puerto Rico High School All Star Volleyball game and she is one of our best prospects. She has been doing a top spin jump serve.

It would be nice to have a great libero again.....I really did like Bohls play at the end of the year. She could always be used for a back row player. Again I'm so excited for all the options they have! So far I'm giving Hugh an A on recruiting and coaching (if we truly gets this libero) The future is bright in Minnesota!
Also there will be 16 girls on the team (biggest since 07), if every current player stays. Now I'm hoping this is a great thing, and that they don't get players angry about playing time. I think a lot of girls will contribute, and I can see Hugh using the young ones in easy games(like he did with Haugen against NDSU).

Didn't we know Tamas wasn't coming back or did I dream that?

Didn't we know Tamas wasn't coming back or did I dream that? I don't think it was widely known. I think the original plan was for Tamas to be an assistant in 2011, a volunteer assistant in 2012, and then move on. When Alfee left this past spring, Tamas moved back to the assistant's role. My thoughts, anyway.

Sarah Wilhite was apparently impressive in the Under Armor All-American game last night. Tune into ESPNU to check her out against the top incoming college talent on December 23rd!

Minnesota may get a big time transfer! Ooooh! Thanks for the news Dorothy! Appreciate it! Btw, how do they create room for this possible transfer with the roster looking pretty much full?

Future Gopher Hannah Tapp apparently possesses a pretty deadly, dangerous, painful jump serve.
Go look at Alyssa Goehner twitter. She posted a picture of her forearm after receiving a jumper from Hannah Tapp and she has a hugeee red mark on her arm.
I hope she gets to use it starting next year!
