Hey
I am not sure when they come out, but here is my list.
1st Team
Fabiano Barretto Lewis Shane Davis Loyola Jeff Ptak IPFW Keith Schuntzel BSU Jose Martins Lewis Gustavo Meyer Lewis
2nd Team
Justin Schnor Loyola Matt Denmark BSU Tom Trantow OSU Dan Haas Loyola Fernando Barretto Quincy Mark Peckham OSU
3rd Team
Josh Lee BSU Kevin Miller Lewis Shawn Scroeder Loyola Arcangel Ruiz IPFW Jeff Overfield Findlay Dennis Santiago IPFW
Player of the Year...Barretto Lewis. He'll just edge out Davis.
Libero of the Year...Ryan Stuntz Lewis.
Coach of the Year...Tim O'Brien Loyola. Inheriting a very tough situation, O'Brien has done as well as could have been imagined.
I don't know how educated I am, but these are my picks!

roofan,
why don't you think schnor will make 1st team? i watched the loyola-hawaii games and he seemed to carry the team the first match. i recall him being first-team all-miva last year, and maybe an all-american (correct me if i'm wrong)?

ok, i dont want to bash anyone's opinions, but Josh Lee doesn't even start. He backs up Kyle Weindel at BSU. Putting three setters on first team is a little shaky, but I'd have to agree they all deserve it. I dont agree with Mark Peckham, and I think Andy Cole deserves to go on one of those teams. I dont agree with Fernando Barretto on second team. The guy hasn't led his team to anything this year with a good supporting cast. He is no where near the top of the categories in anything but whining with the officials. When we played him, all he did was yell at the setter, the defense, whoever it was, and they had a pretty good team this year. He is a good player, but I dont think he's worthy of any awards this season. I also think Schnor from Loyola should be first team, other than that though, I agree with all your choices.

Andy Cole has not demonstrated an ability to perform against good teams. Look at his numbers, including those he posted against UCSD. He hits hard but blindly.

Are we considering UCSD to be a "good team?" At least a team good enough to brag about stats? Just wondering...

Sweetie and others,
1st there was an error on my list. I meant to put Josh Zuidema but brain cramped and put the wrong guy..my bad.
As for Schnor...I can EASILY see him making 1st team ahead of either Martins or Meyer, thats why he is the 1st listed on the 2nd team. I can also see Matt Denmark making the 1st team instead of Schunzel too. Again these were only my guesses...I did them off the top of my head, so there could be some errors. I do think the top 8 players in conferance are the 6 on the 1st team with Schnor and Denmark.
Who knows...opinions are like rear ends...everyone has them and most of them stink! ;D

Hey MivaPlayer, your opinion is your opinion, I'd even say that the whole Josh Lee thing is true, but get your facts straight. Barreto is leading his team in total kills, kills per game, blocks per game, and in hitting percentage. He is only hitting .380 and that is because he was playing at right side for the first 8 games of the season and i believe that for those games he was hitting like -.100. Quincy struggled this year to find a setter -now they have a 5 10 senior setting- and tried as much as 4 players at left side and other 5 in the right side. Anybody who saw them play saw that their old setter was not making the best choices (hence he got beat by a 5 10 kid) and their passing was erratic. He is a way above average hitter and a pretty good blocker... When we played him in cali few weeks ago, he was very difficult to stop. I dont know about you but I think the kid is pretty good. Well see.

When they commit 3 blockers on you and you still get set it gets kinda hard to hit well...
I take the criticism pretty well though. Come out of your shell mivaplayer...

Does anybody knows when the selection comes out? And by the way do you guys think should be picked 1st team and 2nd team? Digger33 and Roofan - I'll be waiting for your educated guesses First Team Jose Martin Fabiano Barretto Jeff Ptak Shane Davis Matt Zbyszewski (might be a stretch) Tom Trantow (might be a stretch too considering he got hurt at the end of the year) Second Team Keith Schuntzel Gustavo Meyer Matt Denmark Fernando Barretto Justin Schnor Shawn Schroeder Third team (don't really care about this team) Angel Ruiz Josh Zuidema Andy Cole Jeff Overfield Serdar Sikca Ryan Stuntz POY Fabiano Barretto LOY Ryan Stuntz First team I am pretty sure of except for Zbyszewski. I thought he had a great year better than I thought he would have. I don't think you should disqualify Trantow just because he got hurt. I'm looking at the whole season not the end of the season. FYI no way D. Santiago should even be considered for 3rd team. He is a big reason IPFW struggled this year.

Digger
After looking at the numbers, I would be willing to concede I left Matt Zbyszewski off my list and that was a mistake. He has been better than Ruiz, so I would switch them. However, I don't think it's too likely that a team that finished 5th in the MIVA is going to land 2 1st Team members.
As always...just opinions!
