I see that SJ Bosco is 10-0 and yet is 8th. Have they played any of the top 7 teams? Will they? I don't live in CA, so I don't really follow the high school stuff too much, just curious. I now know young men who have graduated from those schools.

They've actually recorded a 15-0 record so far this year. I'm unaware of them playing and beating any of the top teams listed in the list above, but I know they've beaten Mater Dei and Santa Margarita, two decent teams. They don't play a tough pre-season schedule and it does affect their rankings. Brian Villaroman is a heck of a player. He's not tall, but can leap like crazy and hit over much taller opponents, and hit straight down. They'll do well in the playoffs I believe. Last year's team was better, but then all the teams last year were better in So. Cal.

Having seen most of these teams, and being familiar w/ the club players from the others, Loyola is in a class by themselves. The next three, SC, Costa and Esper. are a notch above the rest, but not by much. Costa has not really been tested except by Loyola. Costa is in reality #2 until someone else beats them. SC has struggled with the lower ranked teams but should be battle tough by the time CIF comes along. Watch out for both Fountain Valley and Dana. They're the sleepers here. The Loyola mntch @ Santa Margarita today is at 4pm.

From the L.A. Times:
Loyola d. Santa Margarita, 15-11, 15-1, 15-4 Jake Schkud had 13 kills and Jimmy Killian had 10 to lead visiting Loyola (12-0, 9-0). Brian Beckwith had 30 assists and six solo blocks for Loyola.

The Loyola Youth National team looked awesome. CJ showed up on crutches, having suffered a stress fracture in his right foot two weeks ago. So insert Killian as a hitter. Only at Loyola can one YNT player go down only to be replaced by another. They looked beatable in the first game, trailing 10-6 at one point, only to turn it on and leave the eaglets in the dust. SM pulled all their starters in the 3rd game while LYNT kept theirs in. Talk about running it up. The scary part is after Beckwith/Schkud/Smith, everyone else is an underclassman who plays for scvc 17s. They could be better next year if they stay healthy. They are the yankees of boys HS Vball.

That Loyola team is unbelievably loaded with talent. These private school teams are sometimes more like club teams than high school teams...and Loyola certainly falls into the club team bracket because of their ability to "lure" (i.e. recruit) kids from all over L.A. County.

County. Honestly, I don't see what made you go off in that direction. It may have credence in football and BB, but certainly NOT in Volleyball. Mira Costa for years has been on top of the SoCal VB world, and kids have been known to be "lured" there, certainly. But they get enough South Bay kids for a legit program, and they are usually dominent. Other programs like Fountain Valley, Marina, Edision and the South Orange County public schools have had highly competitive and successful programs. Loyola for the past two years has not exactly been in the CIF finals, but have had a quality team.
