I thought this was what you meant but you said "film" and though a documentary is technically a "film," I usually associate "film" with fictional motion picture.

I am astounded by how few movies there are out there that I have any desire to see.
Secret Life of Pets was funnier than I thought it would be, primarily thanks to Kevin Hart. Dory and Zootopia were both watchable. THIS is what I get to see these days.

36 pages in I finally watched most of an interesting movie the other day. It was called "the giver". Yes I know that I am the last human being on earth who is not aware of the book or the movie, my family made this quite clear. Nonetheless it was a good movie. Coming from a guy who might watch 6 a year.
The natural evolution of political correctness.

Star Trek Beyond is a huge mess. Incomprehensible. Both plot-wise and visually. If it weren't for the characters and the dialogue you can actually hear, I would totally pan it.
Doesn't help I don't remember the earlier movie (movies?) either.

Surprised at the quality of the cast, but I'm not sure I want to see yet another flick about a dystopian future based on a young adult novel.

Doesn't help I don't remember the earlier movie (movies?) either. I had this problem with the entire Harry Potter film series. With each new film, I could not remember what happened in the previous film(s) nor any of the secondary characters. Felt disoriented all the time. You really have to watch all 7 or 8 films in sequence in a weekend-long marathon session.

Got to see two preview showings over the weekend (one advantage of living in L.A.) - Jason Bourne and Bad Moms. If you liked the previous Bourne films, this one is right up your alley. If you've never seen a Bourne film, you'll have zero idea of whats going on. I'm a fan of the previous installments, and thought it absolutely delivered what you want in a Bourne film - Matt Damon kicking ass, nefarious government operatives (Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel), intense set-pieces, exotic locations. Fun movie.
Bad Moms is wrong on about ten levels, but was funny as $%#*. I hope it gets some traction in the box office.

I just don't remember why there's an old Spock and a younger Spock. Something about alternate realities, but I forget.

If anyone in Hollywood was paying attention, they'd realize how ridiculous the industry has become. They keep making the same movie over and over again. I kept thinking "What happens if Bourne runs into Reacher?" And, of course, there was yet another comic book movie previewed. Who the hell is Jack Reacher anyhow? I seem to have missed that specific Cruise franchise.

I just don't remember why there's an old Spock and a younger Spock. Something about alternate realities, but I forget. I took my daughter and wife to watch Star Trek yesterday, the old Spock dies in the movie. What is that the third time Spock has died lol. They really had to find an end for Leonard Nimoy, as he passed on last year. Spock has to be one of the best character names of all time, it is perfect for that character.
The film was really just a parody of itself, and the story was predictable crap. To me, it only served to build the characters in the series, so that a new generation could enjoy Bones love hate relationship with Spock, and Captains Kirk's brand of fighting, bravery and leadership.
