I haven't been able to keep up with the gators as much as I would like to this year and was wondering if anyone else had. I have watched Wise's videos and this year seems to be one of the most exciting for them in terms of deciding a starting lineup. After watching and reading all I could I wanted to know what you guys think. Wise says she has no idea who the libero is gonna be and the pin hitters seem to be a huge question mark. Did anybody go to the Orange/Blue game?
I was thinking that Mallette may be on the right side due to her blocking performance last year. Obviously you have Mann in the middle with most likely Antwi; and Recek at outside, but who slides in after that? I have heard nothing but good things about Belcher, but Santos-Lamb will also finally be back this year. Besides that you add Mallette to the mix if Alex is on the right side. In terms of a setter I was wondering if anyone thought maybe even 6-2 was possible now that dagostino and brauneis are in the same gym.
5-1 S: Dagostino or Brauneis MB:Antwi and Mann Opp:Mallette OH: Recek and Lamb (Lamb being O1 due to her heavy swing I have yet to witness) L: I think the competition is between unroe and monserez DS: Pole
6-2 S: Dag and Brauneis M-Antwi and Mann OH-Lamb and Recek Opp:Mallette and Alex L: Unroe DS: Monserez
Any thoughts

I recognize Florida is picked to dominate the SEC, but where would Volleytalkers predict them to finish this year if they were in the Big Ten or PAC 12?

A friend of mine went to the scrimmage and said Ziva is much improved, which is scary good. He said that overall the team looks good and that Noami was pounding it. I'm really anxious for matches to get started.

Do any Gator fans think Shainah Joseph will make an impact this season?

Shainah has an amazing career ahead of her... to say she is physically talented is an understatement... It happening this season is a big question.

I went to the orange and blue game. Ziva killed it, she was phenomenal. Noami was great for missing over a year, but she definitely has room to improve. Simone is deadly on the slide. Mackenzie Dagostino did really well. She's a good blocker for being small (lists her as 5'10 but I'd say she is more like 5'8). Shainah did well, but you could tell she was nervous and still getting used to FL volleyball. And alex did pretty well, she's a good blocker, but needs to improve her hitting. Chloe of course tore it up. And maybe denise had a bad outing, but I was not impressed. I think of the 3 freshmen, alex will have the most immediate impact but that shainah over time will take over. Dana Backlund played OH in the scrimmage and SHE was VERY impressive. I would love to see her playing OH some matches. These are all my opinions by the way, strictly based off the orange and blue game.

In a 3 set match... Ziva had 18 kills, Noami and Chloe both had 10.
Keep in mind... last spring when Noami was healthy and competed in spring matches, she was the leading point scorer for the Gators. And that's with Chloe Mann playing. Mann always has double digit kills. So that's saying something about Noami, if she can get back to how she was before her injury.

I'm excited for Florida. I think they might surprise some teams this year. I'm looking forward to them knocking off Penn State or Stanford in the Nike Big 4 challenge!

L: I think the competition is between unroe and monserez There shouldn't be a competition here. Mad Dog did show some something every once and awhile but I just don't see her being able to establish herself as Florida's libero. I'm not trying to knock her, but I just think Unroe has more talent.

I think they each are stronger in different areas, but Unroe has better defensive instinct, like reading ability etc... but that was from what i've seen before idk how they have improved since.

Just some of the games i watched monserez was more agile and able to run down tips and everything, I could see if she improved her serve receive giving unroe a run for her money. What I'm more interested is with whats going on on the pins. and the setter competition. I watched Dagostino go through cub with burgess and I always remember them both being so athletic. As for the pins, does it look like mallette may be moving to OPP. Also, to an above comment, I wouldn't count against Florida at the Big 4. We have big middles that are still up there right behind texas PSU and Stanford. An upset may be possible if Recek and other pins perform well.
