Ben is a pretty good player, but it would never enter my mind that he would even be considered a fab 50 kid. He has a decent high school jump serve and passes fairly well. Hes stands about 5-6 or 5-7. On his Clairmont team, he is basically their main hitter too.

It is a down year for San Diego D1 players. Especially if the top senior is a 5'8" Libero. Stanford was very interested in Brockman, although he is a good student he wasn't quite good enough to get into Stanford. UCI has expressed interest. However, he'll probably walk on at UCSB. Ben is an excellent beach player with impressive credentials and as a Junior Olympic All American. I would rate Ben and Tanner Sutherland as two of the better passers in the Country this year.

Boys volleyball
Young crop looking to make mark
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Fallbrook's Bryan Allen is one of only three returning Union-Tribune All-San Diego Section picks. Last season, the 6-3 setter/opposite earned that honor after leading the Warriors to the section Division I semifinals with a 30-8 record. This year, Fallbrook (2-3) opens the season with a No. 3 ranking, four returning starters and a determination to make its first appearance in the section championship match.
OTHERS TO WATCH: Mt. Carmel's Tyler Bass and Parker's Scott Crusey return from the all-section team. Among those returning from all-division teams are Castle Park's Matthew Aquino, Clairemont's Ben Brockman, San Pasqual's Tait Campbell, La Jolla's Brady Dinnisen, Scripps Ranch's Corey Hightower, Poway's Josh Jergensen, Bishop's Reid Joseph, Carlsbad's Nick Kent, Grossmont's Tyler Schmidt and USDHS' Brain Vilven.
SEASON OUTLOOK: With so many all-section players lost to graduation, some of last year's contenders are young and lack experience. Teams like defending Division I champ La Costa Canyon, Division I finalist Mt. Carmel, Division II champ Mira Mesa and Division IV winner Francis Parker have lineups stocked with younger players. The effects of this youth movement could be a more competitive season, especially early on, as players adjust to the caliber of volleyball played at the varsity level.

i love that article because it says scripps ranch's player to watch is corey hightower and he's off on academic probation. my team (scripps ranch) has some pretty good players but we lost corey and then lost our tallest middle and have just been playing flat out horrible. But i am a confident guy and i will say right now that in the next week or 2 we are going to kick some ass. starting this thursday with parker..................

Wait a minute. Isn't Nicole Vargas, the author of that little article, the same Nicole Vargas who is a the daughter of Long beach st asst coach Debbie Green-Vargas? She must be like 16 or something.

Im not sure if Nicole is the same girl you are talking about, but she is kinda young. Not 16 young, but she would definitely get carded every time at clubs.
As for the Scripps middle who posted earlier. I do hope you do well against parker. If any team in D2 can do it, its you guys. Looks like you guys are the favorite this year for D2 also. Castle Park is in D3 now and all you have to worry about is Mira Mesa, a team that also looks like is down from last season. Are you guys in the Mira Mesa Tourney next weekend?
