www.ucdavisaggies.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/071514aaa.htmlJust saw this. July 15, 2014 DAVIS, Calif. - Vicki Brown, a former Illinois standout and most recently a member of the Illinois State staff, has joined the UC Davis women's volleyball program as Dan Conners' top assistant. She will be involved in all aspects of the program, including recruiting. "Vicki is a high-energy personality with a solid coaching background," said Conners. "She will be a fantastic addition to the staff and I am thrilled that she is on board to begin this journey with me." Originally from Toledo, Ohio, the 27-year-old Brown previously served two seasons under Melissa Myers at ISU, helping the Missouri Valley Conference members to a combined 37-25 record. Her primary duties included defensive strategy, scouting and recruiting, while her on-court responsibilities were working with the Redbird middles. In 2013, under Brown's tutelage, Emily Schneider and LeighAnn Hranka ranked among the top three MVC leaders in blocks. The ISU defense led the conference with a .153 opposing attack average. Brown previously served as a volunteer assistant at Toledo, where she worked with the opposities, liberos and defensive specialists. She also served as the head coach for the Toledo Volleyball Club 14s and 15s squad, becoming the leading expert in implementing training ideas for all other age-group coaches. As a player, Brown twice earned All-Big Ten honorable mention as a middle blocker at Illinois, ranking among the league's top 10 hitters in each of her final two seasons. For her career, she amassed more than 1,000 career kills, broke the century mark in blocks for three straight years, and took home a total of six tournament MVP honors. Brown graduated from Illinois in 2008 with a degree in communications. She played professionally in Austria, Puerto Rico and Spain for three years before entering the collegiate coaching profession in 2011. Conners, who took over as the Aggies' head coach at the end of June, also finalized the 2014 schedule. UC Davis will compete in preseason tournaments at Rice, Washington/Seattle and Northern Colorado. The Aggies will host San Jose State and Portland in their lone non-conference home matches on September 6 and 7, and will travel to Sacramento State for the annual Causeway Cup matchup on September 16.

You don't see a degree not being required for a full-time position very often. This might be a good opportunity for someone looking to finish a degree while holding down a full-time coaching job with benefits.
