Joke team George Mason beats the talentless Rutgers-Newark in a hideous 4 game volleyball match that makes a mockery of semi-finals everywhere.
The only team with a half ounce of talent in the EIVA beats Princeton in 3.
Loyola wins in 4, because Ball is a terrible name for a school and I won't stand them winning.
Lewis beats IPFW in 4, because I said so.
And I'm gonna go against the grain on my next two, which if I'm right will pay off big and secure me the winning spot.
I used the force and determined that BYU will beat Hawaii in 4.
I'm going to put down UCI over Pepperdine in 3. I may not win the contest but my conscience will be clear, and I won't be confused as to who to root for on Thursday.
In the finals.
Penn over Mason in 4. This game will make a mockery of tournament finals the world over.
Loyola over Lewis in 5, because Lewis is annoying and I want them to lose.
And hell, since I already put UCI over Pep in 3, I'm gonna give them the victory here over BYU. Let's say....5 games.

Hey Eater... You crack me up with your comments. I enjoy your "good-natured" bantering...your Anteater loyalty is profound...AND you'll probably go down in flames this week by choosing UCI over Pepperdine. Will I see you at the match? I hate to say it, but after Pep finishes with UCI on Thursday...Pelzel will look like a Pretzel. ;D It's a shame that UCI changed their name years ago...I like the ICI "Artichokes" as your mascot.

You lost me with the artichokes. I gotta admit it's a slim chance, but I can't be rooting against my guys in their first ever MPSF semi-final. UCI has a legit shot, they beat Pep before, and Rooney could break a leg in warmups or something. I'm probably wrong, but just think what a genius I'll look like if I'm right. If I can get off from work early I'll be there.

Here's this round hoping I can get to a computer before this contest needs more input! (I always pick really important times to be on a beach). EIVA Semifinals * April 24 * at Penn State #3 Rutgers-Newark (15-11) vs. #2 George Mason (1-9) --> Sublimal gut feelings on this one is leaning towards Rutgers-Newark in 4. Perhaps again, its out of respect for Bookum? Who knows. #5 Princeton (16-10) vs. #1 Penn State (24-5) --> Penn State MUST win the conference to keep any legitimacy for the Final Four... 3-0 MIVA Semifinals * April 25 * at Lewis #3 Ball State (19-8) vs. #2 Loyola-Chicago (18-7) --> Loyola-Chicago in a squeaker 3-2 #5 IPFW (15-9) vs. #1 Lewis (25-5) --> Lewis in very tough 3-game sweep. MPSF Semifinals * April 24 * at Pepperdine #3 Hawaii (24-5) vs. #2 BYU (20-6) - televised live on CSTV --> I'm glad this is live, I hope that its also on K-5... anyone with the news on that? If not, I'll definately be tuning into Scott on the actual RADIO not internet in Honolulu! Hawai'i is on a mission... they win 3-1. #5 UC Irvine (20-10) vs. #1 Pepperdine (23-4) - televised live on CSTV --> UC Irvine shows early that they are a solid team, but falls just a little later than early to Pepperdine in 3. --------------------------------------------------------------------- This is where it gets “hairy”…you must predict the MIVA, EIVA, & MPSF Finals “match up, “winner”, and “games played” of the matches held on April 26th. EIVA Finals: Rutgers-Newark vs. Penn State --> Penn State in 3... too little late season competition for Penn State hurts them in ANY chance at an upset in the Final Four. MIVA Finals: Loyola-Chicago vs. Lewis --> A former teammate of mine was from Chicago... he didn't wanna stay there to go to school, but he was offered to walk on to this team. I saw Lewis on TV the first men's volleyball match I watched. Sorry Rusty (former teammate's name)... Lewis in 4. MPSF Finals Hawai'i vs. Pepperdine --> As a Hawai'i fan, I have no choice except to put Hawai'i in the Final Four, they must win this match to make it, and they know it. I have faith in them and have them defeating Pepperdine in 4. Best of luck to all the teams and even MORE luck to all the prognosticators (as it seems, that is the only way one will win this contest!)

Sorry Eater... I'm showing my age. In the 1970s, UCI's mascot was the Artichokes (voted on by the intellectual student body there). I thought it was a pretty good idea, BUT the Regents made the "Anteater" their choice, so you KNOW who won. Personally, I thought the Artichoke would be a cool mascot. A little old trivia for you...hmmmmmmmm 25 years ago. ;D No wonder why you were confused about what I was referring to. Good luck to you in the T.V.P. and the match.

Ummm...I'm fairly familiar with the history of the UCI mascot, seeing as Charlie's roommate was one of the main guy's behind those shenanigans and I've been fortunate enough to hear him tell the story many many times, and I've never heard anything about the artichokes. www.uci.edu/comments.html#Mascot"Tradition called for the selection of a bear, in the spirit of UCI's august sister campuses. But two water polo players (Pat Glasgow and Bob Ernst) suggested an outrageous alternative - the Anteater, inspired by a character in the Johnny Hart cartoon "B.C." The idea gained momentum through an imaginative campaign led by student and cheerleader Schuyler Bassett III, which included bumper stickers, posters, and decals. Based on its "originality, uniqueness and relevance to UC" (the anteater is actually an antbear), the unusual beast won 56 percent of the vote in an election held in November 1965, defeating the other nominees (eagle, unicorn, golden bear, and seahawk and "none of these"). The final selection surprised many, but somehow seemed appropriate. The fearsome UCI Anteaters unveiled their war cry (in the strip, the anteater's tongue impacting its prey is accompanied by a resounding "ZOT!"). At the first intercollegiate athletic event, a water polo match against Cal Poly Pomona, it was a strange yell, unsettling but effective. UCI won the match 22 to 6" On the bronzed anteater statue outside the bren center it also ads this piece of information, "none of these" was the second choice of the student body.
