Haven't heard a WORD about new sand courts being constructed (Other than the USC facility, which was marketed well and looks cool). If anyone has any word on Nor Cal schools I would REALLY like to hear about that-courts OR schools making sand a program), but am sure there must be some interesting construction going on for courts/facilities (lights?) over the US...anything of note?

Stanford is building a new sand vb facility near their other athletic fields. Last I saw, it was still an empty lot. But it is supposed to be ready for the 2014 season.

mj: Thanks! That Florida State setup is COOL! johnbar: I've heard Stanford was building something (3 courts, my friend for Palo Alto mentioned)....The 2 courts currently at Stanford are kind of interesting, but nets/poles are nothing, BUT they are built around a berm with a big dish below so sand does not skew out as level/horiztontal rectangle non-beach venues do...

The two courts Stanford used last year are "recreational". I guess sharing them with the intramural/rec programs was not ideal. There is a circle of sand, with a wall around a third and the berm around the other two-thirds. No seating; bring your own lawn chair or sit on the berm.

New York Times article: Television Revenue Fuels a Construction Boom in the Pac-12One brief quotation: In recent months, [Stanford AD Bernard] Muir learned more than he ever expected about sand volleyball pits. He studied blueprints, ordered 1,200 tons of sand and helped find the necessary space for four competition courts.
Construction is supposed to break ground next week.

At the local university that I play at, they added a 3rd court and showers. Problem is, they lowered all the nets to women's height.
