Yes, yes yes. Not bad for a team that wasn't even ranked prior to the start of the season. Look out folks, the Beach is real, very young, and gonna get a lot better!
GOOOOOOOOO BEACH!

Seems to me like the Bruins were overestimated this season. Still early, but that 0-2 Conference record's gotta sting.

UCLA has dropped two very close 5 game matches. A few breaks in the other direction and they're on the winning side. Long Beach played VERY well tonight in the 3 games they won. Two true freshmen, Peters at setter and Budinger at middle came through like veterans. Touzinski and Wooten were swinging at full power. Why? Because they were feeling confident with their sets. They were flying through the air from the front and the back row. UCLA is playing with some unsettled position players. Mat McKinney played tonight for the first time this year. He only started practicing yesterday. Vince didn't play at all (that I saw). There must be something wrong with him. He was playing great until an injury sidelined him. It's very early in the season. The Bruins have barely lost to two very good teams in 5. It's not the end of the world. They'll improve as their line up straightens up.
The big match is at UCI on Saturday night when Long Beach visits there. That will be one to see! UCLA takes on UCSD at Pauley. UCSD took Ohio St. twice last week.

Congratulations LBSU. I was at the game and the 49ers were the better team. Great digs and solid defense. Can't wait to see them play UCI this weekend.

LBSU WINS FIVE GAME BATTLE
LOS ANGELES, CA -- The Long Beach State men's volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to upset the No. 3 ranked UCLA Bruins, 3-2, at Pauley Pavilion on Thursday night. Game scores were 22-30, 31-29, 26-30, 30-17, 15-13.
Long Beach State improved to 6-1 (2-0 MPSF), while the Bruins fell to 3-3 (0-2 MPSF).
Jeff Wootton paved the way with a match-high 25 kills on 49 attempts for a .367 hitting percentage. Yassir Sliti (17 kills), Scott Touzinsky (14 kills), and David Lee (14 kills) highlighted the top 49er scoring. Freshman Beau Peters, who got his second start of the season, setup the LBSU offense with a match-high 69 assists. As a team Long Beach State registered 80 kills (.381 hitting percentage), 38 digs, and 14 block assists. JT Wenger led the Bruins with 18 kills in the losing effort.
LBSU got off to a sluggish start to the match, falling 22-30 in the first set. 11 attack errors plagued The Beach, as they just mustered a .031 hitting percentage. Lee paced LBSU with four kills. UCLA pulled away in the middle stages of the game. Wenger registered six of the Bruins 16 kills in the set.
The 49ers picked up their intensity in the second game, edging UCLA, 31-29. Wootton came alive for LBSU, racking up nine kills. Long Beach State also limited its mistakes, totaling 24 kills on 36 attempts with only four attack errors for a .556 hitting percentage.
Long Beach State again rallied in the fourth frame, after dropping the third, 30-26, with a convincing 30-17 win. Sliti, Touzinsky, and Wootton combined for 15 of the team's 17 kills in the frame to force the fifth and deciding game.
LBSU resumes play on Saturday, Jan. 25 at No. 2 UC Irvine at 7:00 p.m.

Alan told me he had a very good team this year. ( he didn't mention his redshirts though.) Glad to see them prove it with a nice win. If they can beat the Eaters (horrible nickname) then they should shot up in the polls and it will make for a vey interesting season. Lots of good young talent in the MPSF this year.
