Looks like a full schedule...hopefully they all happen! Anyone else notice that Stare Jablonki is down for two different weeks? On the calendar, its supposed to be Aug. 19-24, but in the release it says Aug. 12-17...

Interesting. The 'tournament of champions' is an awesome concept; hopefully it's just as awesome in practice.

Cool. They're coming back to Long Beach. Good to hear we didn't scare them away for another 10 years

Grand Slams look safe. Nice to see Stavanger back. Sad to see no Klagenfurt.
For the opens, Mexico, Argentina, Qatar and St. Denis del la Reunion would appear to be the events most likely to be canceled.
From an AVP standpoint, it looks like this leaves 2 weeks in June, 1 in July, 3 in August and all of September open for domestic events. That is huge for the potential of a full tour. Especially with the extra notice compared to last year.

What's the story behind Klagenfurt?

Personally, I think FIVB jumped the gun on publishing the schedule. There's a big handful of events listed that I know aren't close to being confirmed yet. Long Beach is definitely happening, though. FIVB, sponsors, City of Long Beach were all real happy with last year's event, and everyone is on board to do it again in 2014.
I heard something about Klagenfurt, but can't remember what the deal is...it'll come to me eventually.

I went to the Klagenfurt Beach Volleyball Grand Slam facebook page and someone asked about it not being on the 2014 schedule. After translating from German to English it sounds like options are still being discussed which gives the impression there's not a definite reason as to why the event will or will not be on the schedule as this time.
Until most of these events establish some sort of multi-year contracts on the same weekend each year, it seems inevitable to have some shuffling/changes leading up to the very last minute in some cases. There's been an emphasis to add sites from all over the place which lends itself to a revolving door of events every year. But in the end... it comes down to money. If an event can't make it financially then it probably won't happen.

I'd heartily recommend Stavanger - it's a very, very cool and fun place to visit. And the tournament site is right on the water. One caveat: Stavanger can be hellaciously expensive.

That seems to be true of Norway in general, from what I've heard. The equivalent of $64 for a plates of fajitas and one Corona in Trondheim!

They have occasionally floated in a barge and built a grandstand. Other years gigantic cruise ships are docked twenty feet from the court. Kinda crazy - between matches there are mini-concerts, fire breathers, sword swallowers, dancers, martial arts exhibitions, and the most wonderfully out-of-sync cheerleaders I've ever seen. Stavenger throws everything but the kitchen sink at you.

Is Stavanger the one where the grand prize trophy is a sword? Also good to see that someone finally came out with a schedule too-early instead of the traditional too-late.
