These girls committed to Minnesota before Hugh had ANY input. The NLI is not "sealing the deal." It's a formality.
Now, someone could be lying about Hugh's involvement while he was with the NT, but I don't see any reason why they would, nor do I see any reason why Hugh would want to be involved with a DI program while he's trying to run the NT.

If you believe that Hugh was not involved with the program (through a conduit) while he was at the NT, then there's a bridge in Minnesota I would like to sell to you.

Why on Earth would he 1) lie about it and 2) want to be involved? He. Didn't. Care. He had much bigger fish to fry. You seriously think he's going to bother with a 15yo kid from Paducah when he's trying to win a gold medal? Who's the naive one here?

I never believed you were naive until you started posting this nonsense. At some point very early on, there was a little bit of howling raised regarding Hugh's presence at junior events and questions raised about whether he was conducting recruiting. The Minnesota compliance office rather summarily dismissed those concerns, and Hugh subsequently adopted a more hands off public posture. That he would maintain some general contact with his staff is not unreasonable in the least. Now if you know something about a kid from Paducah, well that's another thing all together.

spikerthemovie, you're right on the dates. (i'm confusing him quitting midseason with the B Dieter that quit midseason) but this freshman class was still knew they were being recruited by hugh to play for hugh.
but the post is about 2014 Gophers. I am excited to see what the Tapp sisters can do and it looks like a solid class coming in as freshman.

Absolutely nothing you just posted contradicts what I am saying. You may be right on your overall point -- that Hugh was running the program from afar -- but if that is true then both he and Laura have been lying. I don't think they have been. And I still go back to 1) why would he lie about it and 2) why would he want to be involved at that level? The Tapps, for instance, committed before they even joined Lights iirc. Hugh was involved with that? Really??

Yeah, they're going to have a tough time next season. Tapp and Wilhite are not nearly as good as Dixon and Wittman were at the same age.

Bottom line is Hugh's recruits would be Laura's recruits would be Penn States recruits would be Purdue's recruits etc. In other words identifying talent for top Big Ten programs is not all that difficult. The real question is why Minnesota has done such a lousy job with local kids? Why are players such as Wilhite, Nora, and now Handley so desirable as transfers when they were not recruited as high school players? Not to mention why players like Goener and McNeil passed on?

This is true, but I was referring to the incoming "class." I assumed that was what he was referring to, too, but I may be wrong.

Who cares which coaches got which players to become Gophers. It's been a frenzy the past 4 years, but the players we have right now are what Hugh has to work with. He obviously needs to start establishing himself as a recruiter ASAP otherwise the future looks bleak. The next year should be very telling.

Who cares? Well, you, for one. Just read your post. If Hugh was the one getting these players we wouldn't be talking about him needing "to start establishing himself as a recruiter ASAP otherwise the future looks bleak."
By the way, I don't think the future looks bleak. I just don't it looks exceedingly bright, which was what we Gopher fans were hoping for. No? Hugh can keep the Gophers at 6th to 3rd doing what he's doing. But what about 2nd to 1st and contending for a NC?
