The only way that makes sense is if Theo decided to play with someone else, wasn't serious about playing this year, or had some kind of falling out with Nick.

appreciate him being candid about it:
"Next year, I will not be playing with Casey Jennings. At the time I wrote that post, I had every intention of playing all of the 2014 events with CJ. But that afternoon, (literally like 3 hours after I wrote it) Nick Lucena called me and said he would be willing to play with me. I had be hoping to play with Nick the Quick ever since I got the chance to compete with him last year in Brazil, (where I finished 5th, my best FIVB finish to date) but he had planned to continue playing with his current partner, Theo Brunner. Aside from the fact that Nick is one of the best defenders in the world, him being willing to play with me means I have a better chance at starting off in the main draw of international events instead of having to play in qualifiers. It also means I get the chance to work with Scott Davenport, a very smart coach that I only had a handful of conversations with last year but helped me understand the game a little better.
I feel like a d-bag for switching partners the weekend before we were supposed to start practicing, but “The Greyhound” has been the top guy on my list since the end of last season, so I can’t really pass up the chance to play with him. Casey Jennings was a complete professional when I told him and didn’t take it personally. (Which is probably one of the reasons he has been as successful as he has been for so long; he knows the nature of the game we play and how to keep the business separate from the personal) It is a shame that now people can write to tell me that I am a liar and this whole blog is a bunch of crap and I wouldn’t really have anything I could say in my defense. (My hope is that those people choose to e-mail info@ryan-doherty.com with all of their factually-accurate insults, because I never check that account anyway)"

So the guy who will forever be mad at Al-B for not being more loyal to him, picks up a partner and dumps him 3 hours later, when he gets another offer.

I've thought for a while now that we as fans put a LOT more stock into the whole "loyalty" thing than the players do. Beach volleyball partnerships are not marriages, and we should not consider them the like.

Its like the guy who gets laid off. He complains about the company etc. THEN comes home and lays off his gardener, his restauranteer, etc. Does EXACTLY what he/she is complaining about. Kind of like the quote: People judge others on their behavior, themselves on their intentions....

I got that Ryan felt Al-B was not loyal to him from Ryan's Blog, not from my own assumptions.....
