I noticed beach vball will be part of the outdoor Kings/Ducks game this weekend at Dodger stadium. Anyone know anything about this? Who is playing, when, why?
You know those hockey playing Canadians have a boner for the South Bay and beach vball so I am not too suprised - Robataille's hands have to be all over this. It reminds me of the time I launched one off McSorely's giant noggen...the ball was never the same.

Saw Walsh and Dalhauser's names mentioned as 'will be there' via twitter.

Who ultimately pays for this publicity stunt? Unless this is teeing up for some big announcement like AVP is back on NBC this year, it seems like a waste. We all know beach ball is a popular sport as the Olympics have shown. Most everyone has seen the sport. Instead get out a schedule and continue toward coming across as a true pro sport. Would anyone expect another sport to pull off this stunt? Probably not. The sport is serving as a halftime show typically reserved for stuntmen, magicians and the like. As a fan of the sport, I don't like it being portrayed like this.

I would LOVE to hear how this worked out. I mean, it's always a supply/demand thing and the way we all talk on this forum, its like there is NO market or model that works with beach, yet HERE IT IS! So why/how does this work? I'm dying to find out...

Pure speculation here... this looks like a buddy-network thing, not a planned marketing strategy. Somebody in marketing for the NHL/Kings or somesuch knows someone in the volley-community, and they were just shootin the breeze, and said, 'How cool would it be to put a frickin beach court by the hockey rink?'. (Puff, puff, pass). I'm most likely wrong here, but it sounds like a match made at happy hour.
DUDE! Seriously? We could TOTALLY do that! I know some guys who can put a court down, and we'll get a couple pro players...let's make this happen!

Yeah, I figured it was part of the NHL trying to market a big sports "event". I thought NBC might be helping foot the bill for it (never too early to promote the 2016 Olympics, right?). But since they only showed it for 2 seconds from 30 yards away, I guess not. Showed the musical acts (Kiss and Five For Fighting) instead.

Who actually played?
Saw a photo and it looked like more than 2 a side on the court.

As a fan of the sport, I don't like it being portrayed like this. If it cost a lot then I agree with you that it wasn't worth it, but if it didn't I think this is exactly what the sport should be doing. I think every player in the top 20 should be required to do at least 2-3 personal appearances etc. at each event. The AVP should pay to put them up and they should spend the Thursday-Friday before events doing radio shows, bar appearances, local morning shows, APPEARANCES AT JUNIORS CLUBS!!!!!anything and everything they can. You know the model for how the sport got big in the first place. Social media stuff is great but in most cases it doesn't attract new people, just the ones that are already interested. For example how many kids play juniors in the Greater Chicago area? Send players out to meet them, do events for that crowd, have players doing appearances in bars, set up exhibitions etc. If a business owner can call Donald Sun and say, "I can get 200 people here on Thursday, can you get Jen Kessey to stop in? The answer should always be yes, at least until the AVP is drawing huge crowds everywhere again.

guest2: NOW we're talkin'.....Yeah, unfortunately until the masses KNOW the players, the sport stands on its own and that is tough...Its a great sport, but with nothing "in the game", meaning knowing someone, why does anyone CARE about who wins ...
