Confirmation from the player herself: 1a) The Rolfzens committed at this age (though each of them at least knew who one of their future teammates would be). 1b) Fricano will be a redshirt senior in 2017. 2) My guess is that a player of that level doesn't commit to join a team in 2017 in order to start in 2019. She commits to join a team in 2017 with plans to win the starting spot in 2017. Not saying that she's going to - I have only seen the one video of Hilley and have never seen Juley play, either on tape or in person, so I cannot comment either way - but that is the sort of mindset that a kid like that probably has. Also, she's a setter/hitter, so as much as I'm not a fan of the 6-2, I suppose that's a possibility. And yes, there are three and a half whole seasons for injuries to cause problems. Let's just hope that doesn't happen. I'd say a player at that level expects to be on the court day 1. Now whether or not that happens is another thing, but that is and should be the expectation So more thoughts on this: Sheff said at the Q&A after last weekend's WI/MN match that he tells his players that it's his job to bring in people good enough to take away their starting spots, and it's the players' job to improve enough not to lose their starting spots. I expect Hilley will challenge Juley for the starting spot. I just hope that news of Hilley's commitment doesn't make Juley re-open her recruitment.

As a setter, you know that you have to know that you are going to have competition on the roster, since no one wants to be in a position where one injury ruins a team's season. It is kind of nuts that offers are being made so early, but I guess that is the way things are headed. At any rate, I will see it as a good thing that Sheffield seemingly hasn't had a problem finding players to fill his available scholarships thus far. I still have to wonder if they are seeking a transfer for the next two years to add depth at least after last year's rash of injuries. It would also be great if they could find a ds who can contribute in one of the next two classes. At this point, they don't project to have a lot of experience in the back row two years from now. On the other hand, while I haven't seen any of the expected recruits play and don't expect to until they arrive in Madison, it is comforting that Sheffield has been able to get verbals to fill those classes in advance. You never know how it will pan out, but it is probably better to land players earlier than later given how recruiting is going these days.

This girl is very very good. Great get for Wisky, Minnesota loses a good one here. I think Minnesota has 2014-Erica Handley and 2015- Samantha Seliger-Swenson setters coming in, so they probably weren't looking in 2017. don't know Handley---but Seliger-Swenson is a stud--finished 2nd with Northern lights in 16 Open as a 14, then won 17 Open as a 15, 3rd in 18 Open as a 16.

This is a kid Minnesota wanted, heck its a kid everybody wanted.

Some of the best college setters haven't worked at the national team level....but it will be interesting to see how Carlini progresses!

This will go over well in Ann Arbor. Like ive been saying to those folks picking them to win the league, this is a team that was 2 games above .500

Was it reported earlier that Wisky is playing UW and USC in pre-conference? Is another B1G school joining them? That might be worth the trip!

Like ive been saying to those folks picking them to win the league, this is a team that was 2 games above .500 I don't know why it would not go over well in Ann Arbor. It's the truth. It's what happened to the Wolverines, and it could easily happen to Wisconsin. As you said, Wisconsin was 2 games above .500 in conference in 2013. They are by no means a lock for a top-of-B1G finish or a deep tournament run in 2014. They need to work for it, or they will have the same fate as UCLA, Illinois, Michigan, and Oregon. That's the point.

I really like Sheffield. He is doing so much for this team.

I am pretty sure 12-8 is 4 games over .500. 11-9 is 2 games over. That being said, I still pick them 4th.

Also, I would point out that, while the Badgers do need to continue to improve to get where they want to be, I don't think trying to win the Big Ten in 2014 will be the same as trying to do so in 2013. The league won't be bad, but a LOT of very good players used up their eligibility. I am sure that a lot of good players are coming in, but you usually expect some growing pains with that.

Much better league in 2013. Badgers have a shot. PSU is almost all frosh at critical positions, but micha helps. MN loses it's two top offensive producers. MSU lost it's top player. IL will improve. MI...eh.
