The Southern Pacific IBVL (Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League) begins Saturday, March 15 with High School Girls' beach volleyball dual match competition. The league has expanded to three venues (Los Angeles, Orange County and Santa Barbara) with 47 Varsity Teams and 15 Junior Varsity Teams with room for growth as several schools petitioned to join late (after the release of the schedule). The league is open to high schools within the Southern Pacific AAU District boundaries (equivalent to the CIF-Southern Section and CIF-Los Angeles City Section member schools). www.scvavolleyball.org/girls_weekend_sites.htmSomewhat of a scheduling snafu? SCVA holding indoor Mandatories for 15s, 17s and 18s on Saturday, too. Looks like a lot of sophs/juniors will be playing beach on Sat - good thing HS beach runs 3 pairs instead of 5...

LOS ANGELES, HUNTINGTON BEACH & SANTA BARBARA - The Girls' Southern Pacific IBVL is underway with competition at three venues. A full day of play with each school competing in two dual matches against non-division opponents at Dockweiler State Beach, Huntington City Beach and West Beach in Santa Barbara. Several schools scored two dual match victories with the Riviera Divsion, South Coast and the Orange Division each having three schools earning an undefeated dual match record. Each school fields three teams (pairs) and competes against their opponents in order of rank to determine the winner of the dual match. Each match is played in a best of three format of two sets to 21 with the deciding set, if necessary, to 15. Santa Barbara, San Marcos and Laguna Blanca (of the Riviera Division) while El Toro, Saddleback Valley Christian and Laguna Beach (of the South Coast Division) also earned a 2-0 start. Other schools which had undefeated starts were Redondo Union, Valencia, Westlake, Notre Dame Academy, Edison, Huntington Beach, Mira Costa, Santa Margarita and Foothill. IBVL competition resumes on Saturday, March 29 at all venues. Results posted at the SCHEDULE & RESULTS page.
