Now it is possible the AVP St. Petersburg entry list will be updated to include some of these names, so I am probably jumping the gun; but there are some names that are entered in the NVL Dallas event this weekend, but not the AVP-St. Petersburg event next weekend that are a little surprising to me given the prize money available at the respective events. Especially on the women's side. Listed below are the players registered for NVL-Dallas, not yet showing up on the AVP-St. Petersburg list with their AVP/USAV point rankings in parentheses.
Women Kristen Batt (20/41) Priscilla Lima (23/31) Brooke Niles (26/40) Heather Lowe (35/46) Jennifer Snyder (37/unranked)
With the right partner, Batt, Lima and Niles could be part of automatic main draw teams.
Men Mike Placek (36/37) Mark Williams (38/67) Brad Torsone (58/64) Austin Rester (63/53) Drew Mallin (69/63)

Moran is with Steve VanZ in FL, and I know Drew was concerned about eligibility, but its kind of unclear to a lot of people what the eligibility issues may be. Its very clear if you have already signed the AVP contract though. If you have already signed that, you must ask the AVP for permission to play in any other "pro" events. From what I have heard that have been giving that dispensation readily EXCEPT with regards to NVL events.

At the risk of re-engaging this argument, it is frustrating to see two so-called professional tours on the same weekend in California...I understand why the AVP scheduled this event this weekend to 1. block NVL and 2. schedule around FIVB..what does not make sense is why the NVL did not go ahead and move their event to coincide with FIVB Brazil once the AVP announced they would have a competing date...The AVP has every right to schedule how they want - after all, the reality is that the NVL is viewed by the AVP as competition and is a "lower level" tour. So, the bigger question in my mind is why the NVL did not move their Hermosa date to coincide with the FIVB. In this way, they could have gotten basically the bottom half of the AVP bracket...and then everybody wins...probably a lot more complicated than I am making it out ot be but frustrating none the less...

I believe the bottom half of the bracket is probably barred from playing NVL anyway. Besides if those guys dont have the gumption to stand up to the AVP's BS then they dont deserve an additional payday.

Man, I would LOVE To dive into this one, but there are so many variables, it would take WEEKS to get up on 1/2 of them to make an "educated" stance...Talk about the ULTIMATE VT forum argument that could take place yet could NEVER be resolved... I would even guess Donald and "Al" might take a while to understand the constraints of this weekend quandry... It MAY just be the "800 lb gorilla" metaphor, or quite a bit more...

I understand why AVP did what they did, even though it was very short sighted and now it is proving to be a possible backfire, since this a super weak quali for a Cali tourney. NVL is proving to be a legit tour. It is the second highest paying tour in the nation, and since you can't even make a living playing AVP if you place a consistent 5th, to state either as a "Pro" tour is really pushing it.
The way I look at it, I'm not concerned about the player of today ( I don't think it is possible to do anything for them right now) ,, these tours need competition to force them to build a better product for the future, which will help the sport and future players...
