Regarding Mia: No, I don't have any specific information. I do know that the coaches aren't talking much about it (which is curious in itself) so it's purely speculation on my part.

I can't wait to see BYU become a consistent top-20 team again, starting next season. I'll elaborate more when I have time.
link=board=general&thread=1076702402&start=19#1 date=1076796135] Well, cougarize, by the looks of it, unless you're talking about the men's team: you're going to have to wait more than next season.
I know, I know I'm biased, so shoot me. And I know if Elaine was still coaching that my comments would hold more weight, but they have the talent. K-State was a top 10 team last year, and Cougar assistant J. Watson who was as asst. at K-State before he moved over has said that BYU, last year had loads more talent than the K-State team. It's a matter of putting it together and getting the players to buy into the system. When it comes to breaking down tape and statistical analysis, there is none better than Watson. The coaching staff is just getting in the swing of things and the players are adjusting and new players are coming in. Plus, if you go by prepvolleyball's rankings, all four of BYU's recruits rank in the top 250, and three are top 50. This year they'll get 2003 Fab 50 Erica Lott who redshirted last year and they should move her 6-2 frame to the outside. I saw Erica and Kristin Richards at the mall during Christmas, in Utah ... if BYU had Kristin, this would have been a top 20 team last year. Anyhow, Lauren Richards has a year under her belt, and is a superior athlete with skills overshadowing Melissa Courtney, although Courtney's brain supersedes any type of physical disadvantage. BYU is a top 20 next year, and will continue to again be a top 20 in the years to come. I'm not saying top 5 or even top 10, although that might come, but top 20. At the very least I KNOW that BYU will be better than Idaho next year and every year ;D.

I'll take K-state winning the Big-12 over BYU winning whatever conference they are in -- anytime. ;D When it comes to breaking down tape and statistical analysis, there is none better than Watson. At the very least I KNOW that BYU will be better than Idaho next year and every year ;D. No chance. No how. Everyone I overheard and spoke to this past season said that Idaho would have mopped the floor with BYU in the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament. Plus, Idaho has more talent, better athletes, and would simply outcoach anything BYU could throw at them.

That's my list. I omitted Florida for personal reasons (I don't care if I ever see that team again). I obviously think they will be very solid though. But that's not what this list is about.
Just out of curiousity, why does Florida get omitted?

But it's more than just the win over Hawaii, right? Benavia stole your popcorn?

But it's more than just the win over Hawaii, right? Benavia stole your popcorn? More than just the loss, and a bit more than stealing my popcorn. Although, Benavia is one of the few I still like.

EXCUSE ME!! Do you thingk Jason has a little axe to grind? I'd say the record stands for itself. I'll take K-state winning the Big-12 over BYU winning whatever conference they are in -- anytime. If you know Jason, you know he's not a type to have an axe to grind at all. He's a bright, straight-shooting type. The type of talent that K-state draws and BYU draws is different. BYU will always have the opportunity to recruit better athletes. Whether they do or not is the coaching staffs job. Also talent doesn't always equate to winning. That is evidenced last year by BYU's results. The coaching staff has had the time to get things together as they want it, though, so the results should start to paralell their talent. Look at the last 10, 20, 30 years. Where is K-State and where is BYU. BYU has been down the last few years, but history has shown that BYU is a perennial top 15 program. That's where they'll always be, and that's why I'll take BYU any day. K-state has done a great job with what they have had and last year was a special year for them because the core had been playing TOGETHER for several seasons. Sure they had good talent, but it was the cohesiveness that was more important than anything. It's an admirable program, but a legacy is not made in a few years. Case in point, he Wildcats have won 20 or more matches in eight of the past nine seasons ... but the Cougars have won 20 matches in 29 of the past 30 seasons.

You make very good points, and you are certainly right about history. Elaine was one of the all-time greatest. However, K-State did not graduate all its talent. I will bet on them finishing high in the Big-12 and going deep in the tournement next year. I think they will surprise some people who think that losing those 4 seniors depleted them. ;D
