So, on this forum we routinely question programs/coaches with players who transfer out, but isn't there reason to question programs/coaches who are constantly bringing transfers in?

Are you looking at it from the standpoint that maybe the coaches taking in a lot of transfers are 'causing' the transfers by going after another team's players...i.e. actively recruiting transfers? Otherwise, I'd say I'm glad there are programs that will give kids another chance when their first choice doesn't work out for whatever reason.

For me, it does beg the question: how common is it for coaches to quietly recruit players from other programs? There's tons of background connections with former coaches, family, previous teammates, etc., that would allow a coach to "feel out" a players interests.* It is not something that I hear much about, though.
* the term "feel out" was very carefully worded here.

I think the "feeling" out usually comes from the player looking to leave... has their club do some asking around.

I think feeling out is a rough term and it happens a lot more than we think. For sure there are a couple of coaches that are well know in the coaching community for this practice.

I don't get when a player leaves a mediocre program w/ a very high academic reputation for a program that is slightly less mediocre and a much lesser academic institution. Factor making this decision was apparantly a better chance at the post season.
This just makes me want to scream, "what are the parents doing? Do you know the value of what was left on the table? For 1 match (maybe) in NCAAs?"

If they are routinely bringing transfers in, either: 1) the school may not be desirable to HS recruits / coach not good at recruiting out of HS -or- 2) they have a lot of transfers out and need transfers in In general, relying on other programs cast offs is not a good long term plan.

If the player really dislikes the volleyball environment, it would be hard to stay. Just like if you hated your work environment, you'd consider a job that pays less. Similarly, if the school is simply not a fit or doesn't have a particular desired academic discipline.
