I have looked over he rules and cannot find this. Please enlighten me! Are DI coaches allowed to text recruits starting in heir freshman year after 8/1/2014? I have been told this for third time but cannot find the information.. Thanks.

Sept 1 of their junior year. Texting is the same as a letter.

It's a horrible idea and not even CLOSE to the same as a letter. Some of these recruits are going to have their phone explode.

Frankly, I want to see which coach has the best snapchat game.

So is the texting allowed? Snap chat? I think it sounds crazy but a DI HC told this to a recruit.

except that, what if you don't have an unlimited plan and you share with other family members. You could be stuck with a huge bill with lots of coaches texting you. With email you don't get charged per email, but you could have a plan where you get charged per text. Also I can see coaches calling all hours of the night, at school, on Sundays. Still think its a bad idea.

Or...maybe get a pre-paid phone.

Maybe the coaches could challenge all the recruits to a game of Candy Crush.

Snapchat will be deemed video messaging and will not be allowed by NCAA.

Snapchat will be deemed video messaging and will not be allowed by NCAA. I believe it's already been approved.

I was at the NCAA 2012 Convention when text messaging was approved for D3 coaches. The Student Advisory Committee supported the proposal. Their representative spoke at our conference's meeting and said that the students' opinion was that HS kids prefer texting to calling and it made things simpler for them to be allowed to send and receive texts. She said that SAC basically thought that if college coaches were abusing text, kids would be turned off and coaches would need to be smart about when and how often they text. I was initially opposed to allowing texting, but changed my opinion at the convention after hearing from the students.

Back in the day when our kids entered high school we bought them phones. They were purposely the prepaid type. We paid for the basic with the explanation that it was so that WE could be in touch as needed, they could text call others but the extra was on them. It was a little strange sometimes with daughter and coaches but looking back both now ( one in grad school and one a Sr. in college) say this was really what taught them budgeting.
