Ratledge and Carambula just exchanged over-on-two hand-sets for points then Slick faked one and set a tight shooter to Adrian for an open-net swing. Nice.

Ok Adrian just won the match by digging a hit with his chest soccer style and then converting.

Ryan Doherty is starting off this match looking like the best blocker in the world. Its stretches like this that make me believe he may have a legit chance to become exactly that

I'm rooting for Ryan to make it, but right now they're playing like garbage and Nick is blocking

That went South in a real hurry.

Oof, on the women's side, the final round of the winners bracket saw the 1 seed defeat the 4 seed 21-8 21-11. That's where April and Kerri are right now compared to most of the field.

It was ugly. It was at night. It was raining. Carico and DiCello didn't look prepared in any way shape or form.

Yeah, it was pretty obvious Phil shouldn't have been playing. I wonder if there was some appearance fee that helped make his decision to play a little easier. Rosie was running up and blocking, and Phil moved back to the right so Rosie could more easily go over on two. This will really screw up the seeding for a while. Phil and Rosie will drop a 2nd place finish I believe and replace it with a 13th. The new point system is brutal. They were part of an Oakley activation today. That may have played a part. Actually seeding will be similar. They drop their 13th from Huntington last year and add this 13th.

Some thoughts for today.
In a smaller stadium than last year. Not sure why.
Good crowd for night session even with bad weather.
Brooke Sweat does not look like she is 100%
Summer/Day played well against Sweat/Fendrick but still couldn't finish today. Will likely get Walsh/Ross in the semis. Will be curious if they can make a match of it.
Not sure what happened to Doherty/Lucena tonight. They were playing great and Patterson was WAY off at the start. Then Patterson had one really good point with multiple digs, popped and locked, and that seemed to turn everything around. Why Lucena started blocking I have no idea. They basically gave away the second set. They were not trying. It was obvious and a little disappointing as a fan.
They sold about twice as many VIP tickets as they had seats for. In addition to that despite a sign saying players, volunteers and staff should go to other areas and not the VIP area, players, staff and volunteers were there anyway. Not the way to take care of your "VIPs."
Tealle Hunkus and Kendra Van Zwieten were hosed by a horrible call on match point in their elimination match. Also Hunkus is a much better blocker than I realized since she's always played defense when I've seen her before .
As tree stated Walsh and Ross are playing at an entirely different level than the other teams.
Belov apparently was a no show forcing Tramblie to forfeit their match against Alenn/Crabb.
Will be surprised if Hyden/Bourne don't win tomorrow.
Jennings/Casebeer involved in the best matches of the day from entertainment standpoint. Casebeer seems more fired up than I've seen him before.

San Jose COMCAST "CBS Sports" does NOT have the AVP final in their listings as of today for Sunday . . . Anyone know anything about that?

I am sorry but I cannot get into the women side of the AVP as there just isn't enough talent there to even challenge WalRoss until they meet in the finals against Fendi/Sweat. The few other teams that can make it to maybe 17 against them are always all on Fendi/Sweat side during the tourney basically guaranteeing them a cakewalk to the semis. Hopefully SummerDay make a match out of it tomorrow. At least when MayWalsh were winning in the AVP there were good solid teams that could compete. Ey, Nicole, McPeak,Kessy,Ross,Scott, Turner, Akers, Netti and jenny. Also Lima and Lewis. Geeze at this rate Kerri will pass Karch easily. I know we are in a transition state for the women but as a fan I got to say it sucks. The men side is much more interesting right now.At least there are 5 teams in the running.

San Jose COMCAST "CBS Sports" does NOT have the AVP final in their listings as of today for Sunday . . . Anyone know anything about that? They moved the finals up to 1 and 2 EST. I assumed that was for tv. I didn't see it on my guide to DVR either. Matches are starting at a ridiculous time of 815 this morning. It's either to avoid potential weather or for television.

I would love to see the AVP implement a skunk rule. If you don't get 10 pts in Game 1, then the match is over. I think it would lend some excitement to otherwise dull match and reward dominance
