Now that it is coming closer and closer to the day of the announcement, what are everyone's predictions for the winner of the award?
Personally, I think that if Pepperdine wins tonight over BYU, and he has a good match, Sean Rooney will be the Player of the Year. He has put up huge numbers all year long, and has been a huge force for Pepperdine. Even though many teams have keyed on him because they know he is going to get a lot of sets, he has still managed to put up huge numbers, and lead the #1 team in the country. I think that if he doesn't get it that it will be a huge mistake. Yes, Costas was the POY in the MPSF, but I think that with Pepperdine getting to the Final Four, and playing well all year long, that Rooney has the edge. Costas won it as a soph, could Rooney repeat that feat? He seems to be doing a lot of things that Costas has done. POY as a soph, and he will probably get 2,000 career kills. He is almost at 1,000, and should get it in the National Semis, unless he can come up with 40 something kills tonight against BYU.
Anyways, what do you all think?

I think it may already be decided. Does anyone know when its decided? The banquet is on Wednesday I believe, and players have to be notified in advance so I don't think they can decide any later than this weekend. Monday would be the latest they could let people know, so they would have time to make travel plans.

The AVCA all american awards have already been decided and players have been notified...as far as POY goes, that get revealed at the ceremony i believe b/c the POY would be an all-american and be there anyway. I think that's how it goes.

Could this be a precedent? Has any player ever won POY (men's or women's) won out over a former POY on the same team?
