Volleyball Magazine has asked PrepVolleyball.com to compile the Fab 50 girls' list again and I want to be true to its history. That leads me to ask if non-American players have been on it before. This obviously is the "Pavan Question."
Thanks

I think they'll end up putting her on there for some reason, but I'd like to see them stick to the USA players on the Fab 50 list.

I don't see any at the Kern site, but that's no reason to follow a bad tradition. You leave Pavan off the list and everyone will say "huh?"
BTW, how would this top 50 differ from the top 50 you did already?

Pavan has commit to Nebraska, so it makes it easier to put her on the list. A lot of times foreign players are not well known or do not commit until the list is out. Its hard to figure out if foreign players are going to play for a team in the US. Only in the past few years have players started to commit over a year in advanced. Before that, most didn't commit until the early signing periods in November.

We did a top 100 based purely on recruiting potential.
This Fab 50 will be like last year: a mix of top recruits and great high school players, with one more HS season under our belts for evaluative purposes.
For instance, there's no way that Carrie DeMange, who wasn't in the top 50 recruits, could not be Fab 50. She was the most dominant player at the nation's most prestigious high school tourney.

What exactly is the criteria for selecting FAB 50 players? No exact criteria. There are some things stated such coaches opinion based on college potential, size, speed, etc. However one would wonder how to apply those to some of the selected players. So good promotion works best. ;D

Sure - when you start thinking about it, players such as Mia Jerkov, Bibiana Candelas, or Mira Topic were easily among the top 25 recruits in their respective classes. The only non-Americans I've seen on these lists are Canadians, and they're probably there because most college and club coaches know who they are.
In addition, aren't foreign players more or less "stealth" recruits - likely unknown to all but a tiny number of college coaches. The coaches need connections to foreign talent (Mia Jerkov's story is a doozy).

What about the "Cassie Busse Question"?

So "USAFAN" would like to see ALL the Fab 50 be Americans. How selfish. Canada has produced some top players over the years who have played in America and set records, become valuable players to the "American College Program" and the selection commitee have even made them "All Americans". --They are STILL doing it. USAFAN should come to Canada to one of the club tournaments and see the number of American college scouts who know there are plenty of stars here but the Canadian University and College programs just cannot compete with the USA. That is the main reason our Olympic Team struggles. Any players who have potential are quickly offered a whole lot more to go south, thus ending their career in Canada or putting it on hold for a few years. We enjoy coming to the USA and seeing the players from all countries, thus, the Fab 50 should include all countries..

You don't suppose Stanley is actually SG's father do you? He seems very pro Ohio State, but I never seemed to make the connection until now. Nah, probably not, who knows who anyone is on the internet anyway.

Volleyball magazine is actually another media source guilty of uneven coverage in favor of women over men. There is just no reason for it.
Volleyball is one of the most participated sports in the world. Its professional in most countries in europe and attracts alot of support and is covered by tv every week. Particularly the men's side
Now tell me why the hell would these young men wanna come to America. I'll tell you the women will come because of America's weirdo fixation of sex appeal in volleyball instead of skill. They will be pampered more over here.

I am not saying that Canadian volleyball sucks, I am just saying that there are numerous international players that come in, and unless the Volleyball magazine or prepvb.com makes a good effort to look at all the recruits then they should just keep it American.
