She's going to be on with Scott Robbs tomorrow on 1420 a.m. Scott said that she is leaving for pro v-ball in Russia.

I am interested to hear the factor(s) that lure Lily K to Russia, notwithstanding the weather and the possible communication problems (does she know a smattering of Russian words?). I would have thought that she would join Kim W and the other top hitters (Katie Wilins, April Ross and Katie Olsovsky) of this year's senior class to the Puerto Rico league.

"hi! concerning lily kohamoku - i listened that samorodok wait player from hawaii - maybe she? 'll check, is she good?" This from a friend in Russia. I guess Kahumoku will be playing for Samorodok after all... I told him that from what i've heard she's very good

Last year when the Wahine beat Samorodok, in a post match interview their coach Victor Bartov said that Lily and Kim could play on his team. Lily will do incredibly well on the Samorodok team.

I think so too as long as she does not have many adaptation problems to the team and the city...

Lily will do fine on the team. IMO she will be one of the leaders on the team already because when they played last year, Lily and Kim were both unstoppable. Samorodok couldn't figure out a way to stop the two.
So Lily will definitely fit right in with these girls volleyball wise. But culturely she might have a little culture shock, but I think she'll adapt fine.

Plus some “temperature” shock but don’t worry, Russians know how to fight the cold - they use a plenty of a liquid named vodka. ;D BTW she may have some troubles with general life arrangements there but I’m sure she will come to love the people: even though they live in cold area they are worm, hospitable and emotional. She’ll be given VIP status – Samorodok doesn’t have any other international players.

I'm sure she'd enjoy the life there if she can adapt. Usually in places like Russia (and Turkey also for that matter), it's either you love it or you hate it. There are very few athletes in between.

Nothing against Lily but a lot of girls (and I mean A LOT) have problems adjusting to life in a new country. I wouldn't be surprised if Lily comes back sooner than expected, or alternatively, doesn't go back after the first season. Her half-sister Jessica Alvarado had difficulties in Europe and came back home within a couple days of landing in Europe.
Girls/Women just can't adapt very well, from my own personal experience. It's too stressful to them. Their expectations are too high. They demand a high comfort level and want to be catered to hand and foot. Men are just better athletes, but that's neither here nor there. Women need to stay at home, pamper their husband, listen to their problems and needs, and keep quiet. Take care of the little bratty children, too.

Adapting to Europe is one thing, but adapting to Russia may be pretty difficult. I imagine there will be relatively few Americans, or even English speakers at that.

I see, “The Good Wife's Guide” has become your favorite reading ;D What's about K. Phipps, D. Scott, H. Bown and the rest who have been playing overseas for years?

I expected Lily to go to Puerto Rico too. If I remember correctly, Samorodok is a club team in Khabarovsk, Russia. Khabarovsk is in Siberia .Talk about two places on opposite ends of the spectrum. I wish Lily the best.

What about her back? This might be a big question mark as to the longevity of her career. Plus you can't play beach ball in Russia...

btw Samorodok is the team of former RUssian Nat'l Team setter Elena Vassilevskaia so Kahumoku will be playing with a very good setter there....
