Her hand was wrapped up during the match at St. Mary's. She didn't play so maybe she's injured?

I know Stanford tends to play to their level of competition, but a lot in this match points in the wrong direction. I am fully on the "Stanford can't win against the best teams without decent left side play" bandwagon. Howard and Burgess had a combined 13 kills with 9 errors in 41 attempts. That is beyond pathetic. Stanford blocking also pathetic except sometimes when Cal forgot how to pass, pretty much the story in games 1 and 3. Inky was great. Bugg was great. Boukather was great. Everything else meh.

Everything else meh. I agree the outsides were disappointing tonight. Particularly when they were out of system, as happened the majority of the second set. Stanford usually passes well. I saw them play Santa Clara (who is the number one NCAA team in aces/set!), and Stanford passed beautifully in that match and executed a near-perfect game plan...1 error in the whole match!! Tonight, they had periods where the passing was just awful, and the result was chaos. Burgess and Howard made a lot of their errors from sets that were way off the net, but elite hitters have to figure out how to deal with that. Burgess was hitting out, and Howard was hitting right into the block.

Hard to know what to make of this match.
Both teams looked sloppy and disorganized. 2nd set was mildly interesting, but sets 1 & 3 looked like two mismatched high school teams. Did Stanford play down to Cal, or were both teams suffering PAC 12 opening night jitters.
