And gifted beach volleyball players from Bakersfield spend their summers on "Southern California" beaches, which are nothing like Lincoln beaches... Glad she is happy at Nebraska. The poster is referring to Kelsey Fien, not J-Wo. I must have missed the beaches in Bakersfield. I don't think of it as very "SoCal" - more Fresno than OC.

They do indeed teach geography here. But it's just not that cut and dried - determining the boundary line for NorCal/SoCal depends on who you ask. Probably the most common answer would be The Grapevine (30 miles south of Bako). Bakersfield high schools do not play in the Southern California section, and most folks I know from there don't consider Bakersfield as part of SoCal. I do not want to continue this tangent as the bakersfield comment really seemed out of place. Most bakersfield clubs play in LA. BUT, that being said the woman in question played for LONG BEACH correct? And grew up in OC? So, I do not think most of what was said by the poster applies? She also went to High School in LA so I do not even know where the bakersfield comment came from. www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=208659073I like the bailey prediction better since she would be coming home and (I would think) that her allergies would be better in SC than in WA Wrong player. The Bakersfield discussion is about Kelsey Fein, Nebraska OH and Bakersfield native.

I believe it was mentioned that is is unusual for a So Cal gal to stay in Ne for more that 2 years; or that is why prediction was made that Justine would transfer! Bakersfield was brought because Kelsey is a Jr at Ne. & that is more than 2 years! We like Justine and Kelsey! Great ladies! GO HUSKERS

Had a friend that had to move from the beach to Bakersfield and experienced severe culture shock! I have to agree with Geddyleeridesagain as Bakersfield may play club in Southern California but it is not considered part of Southern California from a locals point of view (unless, maybe if you're from Bakersfield). Happy to hear Wong-Orantes is good with her choice in schools, good kid/family.

I was wondering if Justine W-O is the first Southern California recruit to Nebraska to stick it out more than one season? She looks happy on the court and is playing well. She returned for her sophomore year after the hellacious weather last year, so I would guess she stays. All three are doing well in their current schools and wouldn't seem likely to leave. But maybe fetchin knows something. Do you consider Bakersfield to be part of Southern California? i think gobruins derailed us all with the suggestion that Justine was from Bakersfield. She went to Los Alamitos, was a setter for Miz Long Beach, and was an elite beach player and longtime partner of Sara Hughes. My perception was that other elite beach players like Alexa Strange and Lara Dykstra didn't last long in Lincoln.

If your question is sincere, yes it is part of So Cal. In club ball, bakersfield plays in SCVA.... Ditto for looking at a map. Thought state schools in Cali offered geography? They do indeed teach geography here. But it's just not that cut and dried - determining the boundary line for NorCal/SoCal depends on who you ask. And Yes Bakersfield is in So Cal...I was born there

I think D1 transfers got off on the wrong foot; instead of speculating on possible transfers; it should concentrate on what is! Just my humble opinion! GO HUSKERS

Some of us immediately knew gobruins was referring to Kelsey Fien who is from Bakersfield and has been at Nebraska for more than two seasons. His comment did not "derail" that group of posters.

I like the bailey prediction better since she would be coming home and (I would think) that her allergies would be better in SC than in WA Regarding allergies, actually it would most likely be the opposite. Allergies almost always improve when a person goes to a new environment, where the allergens are different. Allergic sensitivities build up cumulatively over time, and the longer a person is in one place, the worse the allergies get because of the accumulation of that/those area-specific allergens hitting the the allergy sufferer's malfunctioning immune system. For example, a person could be highly allergic to olive trees, but have no reaction at all to pine trees.

In the last election Bakersfield was officially voted out of California. It is now part of New Mexico...
