18 players is just way too many. Brenner has not had an All-Pac 12 deserving season, as she has averaged 2.8 kills, 3.7 digs and hit just .169 in conference play. Throw in 0.16 blocks per set to boot.

All Pac-12 is now eighteen players? That's bigger than most rosters. Egregious.
Glad to see they got COY right, though.

This is a coaches vote, correct? I don't know who selects these. It might be the conference HQ.

Strickland as Lib of the Year? Not Benson or Gilbert?
I guess she's got most of the intangibles you'd look for that sets her apart from the other two. There aren't many subtle things about her game - she's extremely vocal, demonstrative, an energizer bunny in Libero form, you see it from anywhere. She's got that flair, maybe the most Natalie Hagglund-esque in that regard compared to her peers this year. Benson and Gilbert can at times look dead in the water - much more passive than Strickland, which maybe makes it tougher to vote for. The loud girl flying across the floor in full-sprint sprawled out is much more visible for longer stretches of time. Style points if you may.
Idk, honestly just trying to see what other voters saw. I'd have given it to Benson for the record.

Cal had more HM honorees than PAC-12 wins. Nothing for WSU (out of 54 total nods).
Expanded teams leaves no glaring omissions (a couple are kind of generous based on this year's play), though kinda thought Trueman deserved All-Freshman HM.

Kind of surprising Jaicee Harris didn't at least get HM. (Make that Chelsey Bettinson, I guess, who had a better year than Harris.) Holt led the Cougars in points, but only hit 0.145. Bettinson was next in points and she at least hit 0.218, which was the highest percentage on the team -- except for the libero! Sommer hit .500 going 1 for 2. I know how a libero gets a kill, by having a free ball drop in, but how does a libero get a zero attack?

But if the voters were also taking into consideration Strickland's big contributions from the service line, the award begins to make more sense.

She's also pretty good as a setter, too, although that's not all that unusual for liberos.

Hey, you all need to go easier on Strickland. After all, she was ninth in the league in digs per set. That alone should qualify her. On the other hand "she" (her team) was #1 in Opponents Hitting Percentage, a much more important stat. Plus she was by far the leader for liberos in Aces and OOS Serving. And, by the end of the year, she definitely had the "Wow!" Factor. Opponents hitting percentage is not a libero stat. Give me a break. I think she had perhaps the third best season among liberos in PAC-12. But she was perhaps most exciting, had her best matches at end of season. But she won; she is definitely a great libero; it's fine with me. Obviously other coaches thought she was the best.

It may have helped Strickland's case that, in the Stanford match--high visibility, fresh in everyone's minds--she had a great match.

Congrats to Krista Vansant for POY. Although I would have voted for Karsta, Krista is very deserving. She was NPOY last year, and is having an even better year this year. Amazing player, I'm a big fan.

Strickland provides points for her team with her serve... That seems to set her apart from the rest of the group.
