5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR NCAA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL REGIONALSBy Mechelle Voepel | Dec 7, 2015 espnW.com Excerpt: " 2. Let's hear it for the 'little' guysLoyola Marymount setter Hannah Tedrow said the Lions have done a good job this season of, "Not caring who was on the other side of the net." But they had company in that during the NCAA early rounds, as some other smaller-conference schools also made it to the sweet 16 party. • As mentioned, BYU will be going back to the regional semifinals, as the Cougars -- who were seeded No. 13 -- beat Ohio and Western Kentucky. Next up is No. 4 seed Nebraska in the Lexington, Kentucky, regional. No. 5 Washington and No. 12 Ohio State are in the top half of that bracket, as all four seeds in Lexington moved on. • Creighton, the Big East champion at 17-1, was the No. 16 seed, so technically it wasn't an upset for the Bluejays to make it to the regional semifinals. But they had to do it on North Carolina's home court, first beating Coastal Carolina and then downing the host Tar Heels. This is Creighton's first sweet 16 appearance. But for the Bluejays to even have a chance to play in their home city, Omaha, for the final four, they have a bigger giant to slay. Next up is No. 1 seed USC, which had a hiccup in losing a set to Cleveland State in the first round, but then swept San Diego in the second. The winner of USC-Creighton (ESPN3, Friday at 11 p.m. ET.) will face the winner of Kansas-Loyola Marymount in San Diego. • Hawaii has won three NCAA volleyball titles, but the Rainbow Wahine do play in a smaller conference -- the Big West -- and were not seeded in this tournament despite their 26-1 record coming into NCAA play and the fact that they are ranked No. 7 in the AVCA poll. Hawaii shrugged that off, beating TCU 3-2 in the first round then sweeping No. 10 seed Texas A&M, the SEC champion, on the Aggies' home court. Hawaii moves to the Des Moines regional and now takes on defending NCAA champion Penn State. And while it was a tough end to the season for Texas A&M junior star Jazzmin Babers, she and her family got some good news Monday. Her father, Dino Babers, was named the new head coach of Syracuse football. 3. Big Ten gatheringThe seeds held in the Des Moines regional, giving us almost a mini-Big Ten tournament. Prior to the Penn State- Hawaii semifinal on Friday, No. 2 seed Minnesota will take on Illinois (ESPN3, 6 p.m. ET). The Gophers got this far on two sweeps, while Illinois had to pull what was -- seedings-wise -- an upset. The Illini, who finished seventh in the Big Ten at 10-10, beat No. 15 seed and ACC champion Louisville 3-1. Such is the power of the Big Ten, which has six teams in the round of 16." Hawaii’s Magill, Taylor named to Pacific North All-Region teamBy Cindy Luis, Star-AdvertiserDecember 9, 2015 TONY AVELAR / SPECIAL TO THE STAR-ADVERTISER The Rainbow Wahine’s Nikki Taylor and Olivia Magill are qualified for All-America consideration after being named to the AVCA Pacific North All-Region team on Tuesday.DES MOINES, Iowa >> As Hawaii continues its path to a national volleyball championship, two Rainbow Wahine continue on their paths to All-America honors. Senior middle Olivia Magill and junior opposite Nikki Taylor were named to the AVCA Pacific North All-Region team on Tuesday, which qualifies the pair for All-America consideration. These are the 80th and 81st all-region certificates for the Hawaii program. “It’s quite an honor to make the Pacific North all-region team,” said Magill, selected for a second consecutive season. “It is an extremely competitive region. “I am proud of myself, but I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for my teammates and coaches making me better.” Magill, an honorable mention All-American last season, ranks 12th nationally in blocks per set (1.49 bps). The Arizona transfer, one of two Rainbow Wahine who has started all 29 matches, has helped Hawaii remain No. 1 in blocks (3.18 bps) coming into this week. It is the first all-region selection for Taylor, named last week as the Big West Conference Player of the Year. The Kaiser High product ranks in the top 50 nationally in points (5th, 5.41 pps), kills (17th, 4.36 kps), aces (21st, 0.43 aps), points (42nd, 530.5) and total aces (45th, 46). “I’d like to thank my teammates and coaches, for without them I would not be in this position,” said Taylor, who is 50 kills away from becoming the 19th Rainbow Wahine to reach 1,000 kills. “I am very humbled to receive this award. But it feels very fulfilling to know one of the things I’ve worked to achieve during the season has been accomplished. “However there’s still more work to do.” “Congratulations to Olivia and Nikki for this award,” Hawaii coach Dave Shoji said. “Their stellar play this year has allowed our team to win the Big West and to advance to the NCAA regionals.” Hawaii (28-1) takes a 23-match win streak into Friday’s second regional semifinal against two-time defending NCAA champion Penn State (28-5) at the Wells Fargo Arena (3:30 p.m. Hawaii time). In the opener, Big Ten champion Minnesota (28-4) faces Illinois (21-12). The Rainbow Wahine will continue to be without junior middle Annie Mitchem, who has been out since mid-October following surgery for a fractured pinky finger on her right (hitting) hand. She was cleared to practice on a limited basis last week and was with the team in College Station for the two subregional victories. However, she has not been cleared to play and returned to Honolulu for this week’s final week of classes. The only other Big West player honored on Tuesday was Long Beach State setter Jenell Hudson. She was on the all-Pacific South Region team. Just like the Pac-12, the Big West has its teams divided between two regions. Three Hawaii prep products also were honored, including three-time selection Carly Kan (Punahou), a junior outside hitter for Missouri who is the first Tiger ever honored three times. Also Arizona teammates Penina Snuka (Kahuku) and Kalei Mau were named to the Pacific South Region teams. Snuka, a junior setter, is a two-time first-team selection, while junior hitter Kalei Mau (Kaiser) was named honorable mention. Hawaii arrived here Tuesday afternoon from Texas and has a scheduled practice at Drake University on Wednesday. It is the first third-round appearance for Hawaii since 2011 and the 27th regional appearance in 35 NCAA seasons. The Wahine competed in the AIAW from 1974 to 1980, winning the title in 1979. Hawaii never finished lower than third in seven seasons, with three runner-up finishes and three third-place finishes. NCAA WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT REGIONAL>> Hawaii (28-1) vs. No. 7 seed Penn State (28-5), 3:30 p.m., Friday, Des Moines, Iowa

On to RegionalsSixteen teams remain in the hunt for the NCAA Division I women's volleyball titleLoyola Marymount moved on to the round of 16 with defeats of Colorado State and Stanford. Shirley Pefley
Full story and video links here: volleyballmag.com/articles/43752-on-to-regionalsWith the first weekend of the 2015 NCAA Division I women’s volleyball tournament in the books, 16 teams remain in the running for the national title and 48 teams ended their seasons in disappointment. Perhaps the most notable defeat was Loyola Marymount’s sweep of Stanford at the Cardinal’s own Maples Pavilion. LMU will move on to play Kansas in San Diego on Friday, the program’s first-ever round of 16 appearance. Creighton, which advanced to its first regional appearance with a 3-1 victory over North Carolina on the Tar Heels’ home floor, has a chance to play in its home city in the national semifinals, if it can make it through top-seeded USC on Friday in San Diego and the winner of LMU vs. Kansas on Saturday. The Bluejays scored the No. 16 national seed after going 25-8 in the regular season and ranking 15th in the RPI. Texas, the only team with the privilege of playing at home on Friday will take on UCLA, which advanced thanks to a magnificent comeback after going down 0-2 versus Michigan. The winner of that game will play the winner of Florida versus Wisconsin on Saturday. Wisconsin is playing in its third straight regional, while Florida has made the regional rounds in 10 of the last 11 years. The last and only time these two teams faced off in tournament play, in 1997, Florida won in five. Hawaii stunned SEC winner Texas A&M, sweeping the Aggies in College Station with Nikki Taylor contributing a match-high 14 kills. The Rainbow Wahine now await their appointment with Penn State on Friday. The two-time reigning national champion Nittany Lions dropped a set to Dayton in their second-round match, losing 25-13 in the second set but rebounding to win in four and advance. Illinois and Minnesota make up the other half of the Des Moines regional, and that match on Friday is the only intra-conference battle in the round of 16. When the Fighting Illini and the Gophers faced off earlier in the year, Minnesota won in five. Finally, in Lexington, where host team Kentucky is conspicuously absent after losing its first round match to American in straight sets, BYU will take on Nebraska while Washington plays Ohio State. Other than American’s defeat of Kentucky, there have been few surprises in this quadrant of the bracket, but if Ohio State or BYU were to emerge with a victory on Friday that would certainly be big news. Round of 16, Friday, December 11, 2015BYU vs. Nebraska @ Lexington, Kentucky, 5 p.m. ET Florida vs. Wisconsin @ Austin, Texas, 5:30 p.m. ET Illinois vs. Minnesota @ Des Moines, Iowa, 6 p.m. ET Ohio State vs. Washington @ Lexington, Kentucky, 7:30 p.m. ET Texas vs. UCLA @ Austin, Texas, 8 p.m. ET Loyola Marymount vs. Kansas @ San Diego, California, 8:30 p.m. ET Penn State vs. Hawaii @ Des Moines, Iowa, 8:30 p.m. ET Creighton vs. USC @ San Diego, California, 11 p.m. ET

No interview with Shoji?? it looks like some of those clips were from the post-game after the round 2 matches (with the ncaa logos behind the coaches/players). but some might have been with the coaches/players holding a press conference back at their school. the problem is that hawaii hasn't gone back home yet. here's the post-match press conference with shoji (and taylor and greeley) after the tamu match. it was posted earlier, but has probably gotten buried in the thread now.
