Incredibly classy. "A 6-3 outside hitter, Fricano played in six matches and seven sets as a redshirt freshman last fall. She had four kills while hitting a negative .120 on the court."

Now that the initial shock has somewhat worn off, this REALLY depletes the lineup until the new recruits arrive. Anyone else even more nervous about the depth of experience we have if Fric was to be RS? Are we really banking on Kriskova's health or a newbie that much?

"As we were going through the spring, watching current and incoming players develop and get healthy"
Is it just me or does anyone else think this means Romana is taking the RS?

That is too bad....I was hoping she would have a good season for Wisconsin this year.

Surprised this is so late in developing -- but there are a lot of injuries to current and incoming players (Kriskova, Williams, Morgan) that couldn't be fully assessed for a while. Suggests that recoveries are progressing well and Kriskova will have RS sewn up as expected. Question is who is her backup? I guess Saunders?
Anyway, so long Fric! Sorry we couldn't get to see more you. Good luck wherever you end up.

The rest of the notice is pretty nice though.

Great article. I know next to nothing about Saunders, and assuming Sheffield wants Williams' speed and athleticism at middle I don't know who else would be tapped to contribute at RS besides Kriskova. I see Duello sharing time with Bates on the left and Smith at DS as expected. Maybe Williams pushes right if Morgan and Nelson are playing well? I'm probably wrong.

So perhaps the players ahead of her are Kriskova on the right and Duello and Bates on the left.

Given that Julia came in for Thomas for .23 seconds it's entirely possible that Saunders is all the backup they'll need.

Given that Julia came in for Thomas for .23 seconds it's entirely possible that Saunders is all the backup they'll need. IIRC, Romana's knee issue was cartilage tears, not any sort of reconstruction. So it's probably a safe bet. Here's what I figure happened last year. Romana tried to come back too fast, had a setback, and her recovery was delayed. By that point, Court and Bates had come into their own at RS and OH, respectively, and there was no need to hurry Romana back onto the court. THey probably decided to take advantage of the red shirt opportunity and rehab her slowly and deliberately so that she could get 3 more good years of eligibility.
