Fricano's twitter has something about "Alabama soon" so perhaps that is one of the 7 schools.

It can't have been an easy decision for her. I have to give her credit, though. Coming to grips with the notion that your coach doesn't see you realistically earning significant playing time in the next three years and being self-aware enough to realize that you need to be playing to be fulfilled, and then majorly uprooting your life to pursue that goal... that requires a great deal of maturity.

Agreed. I can tell a lot of the girls were best friends and Fricano, in particular, was active on social media with incoming and future recruits. :/

Im sure shell be a great fit somewhere. Sheffield is so amazing. He had nothing but love for the girl, and gave her a release. "I've known Taylor for a long time and she's a person that I care about deeply," Sheffield said. "She is great in the classroom, has probably been our best player in the weight room, is a great recruiter, and on a personal note, nobody has been kinder or more playful with my two daughters. It must be hard leaving a program like wiscosin with a great coach and great players.

Here's Frick's own announcement.
I can see her putting up big numbers somewhere.

She will generate a lot of interest and I would guess Sheffield will help her out. Maybe Illinois State? Dayton would be funny though. I agree that it is both a lot of maturity and competitive fire to walk away from a program you appear to love. So now we have 5 with Big Ten experience. Wow. 5 with B1G experience and yet many still anticipating this team to compete in the top group for the conference title? Clearly a ton of credit to Coach Sheffield and a lot of faith in those returning. Shocked to learn today that NO players on the roster are from Wisconsin. Good luck, Wisconsin.

They will have some Wisconsin kids in 2016 and 2017. Maddie Smith 2015. There are quite a few talented kids in Wisconsin, but they can't all go there even if Wisconsin wanted them and some may want to leave the area anyhow.

It is disappointing that she is leaving, as she is a player with a lot of potential and it will hurt the team's depth on the pins, but I hope she does well wherever she ends up.

I'm just glad everyone seems to be parting ways with respect intact. If her time in Madison makes it easier to get into a good starting position elsewhere, it won't be time poorly spent.
in the end, I don't think Fricano leaving affects the experience we were expecting to have on the court. Where she could be missed is off the court, where she seems like a really positive person. I found her to be pretty funny...
Does Sheff try to get another transfer now to fill the scholarship? Hard to imagine given how late in the spring it is. Or does he offer to one of non-schollies? Upsides? Downsides?

It's not too late for us to land a transfer. IIRC, we didn't learn about EJ/Romo until April of last year. I'm betting we get a transfer.

The question is, is a transfer part and parcel of her decision to leave? ie, "I found someone, you should leave." I am 100% withholding judgment and hope that isn't the case and it was simply a reality check on PT. At first blush it doesn't seem like that was the case at all. Who are the freshmen who could play RS? Saunders? Re: no Wisconsin natives, without Maddie Smith in 2015, it would have been the second year without. Sure, I love having native Buckies. But I want the best talent first. It seems like the Milwaukee Sting pipeline isn't as strong as it used to be, talent-wise. I highly doubt a potential transfer contributed. Think about it: We don't have any free schollies if Fricano stays (Punzel's article confirms that her departure frees one). A hitter of the caliber that would edge her out is unlikely to transfer to Wisconsin without knowing that there is a scholarship free. It would be really risky for Sheff to court a transfer on the promise that he'd free a scholarship (by convincing a current scholarship player to retire or transfer out). Plus, if you were a player looking to transfer, and a school you're interested in is full up, but the coach recruiting you says he'll free a scholarship for you... what does that tell you about the coach? It'd be really bad form. No, I'm pretty sure that all this was is the knowledge that Romo is edging Frick out for PT next year and in 2016. That leaves 2017, Frick's senior year, when this year's freshmen will be juniors, and we'll also be getting Whalen, Loberg, and Hilley (primarily a setter, but playing some RS in HS). So there's just a long line ahead of her. As far as which of our 2015s can do what: Saunders can hit from either pin. Williams can hit from anywhere in the front row. Morgan is a middle but I think played some opposite in club. So there are many options. RE: Wisconsin natives - I'm with gobucky. It's awesome to get local kids, but we need the program to be successful.

You'd think there would be more animosity if Fricano were being pushed out too. Everybody seems to be falling over each other to say nice things. Why would Fricano take part in that if she felt she were being pushed out? Doesn't add up. I can imagine that once it became clear Fric would need to go elsewhere that Sheff would start shopping for someone who could compete for time.
I also like the idea of having in state players, but the way you keep the best recruits in state is to have success. (FWIW...PSU had 3 in state players last year, all DS's.) So far it seems to have worked getting Dodge and Whalen to sign on. I really hope that schools and clubs in Wisconsin can use the success of UW to build their programs again. If I were Sheff I would be thinking about how to build a strong VB community in state, with UW at the hub.
