No. 25 Women's Volleyball Downs Northeastern, 3-1
Buckeye Head Coach Jim Stone records his 500th career victory.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State (9-0) remained undefeated as the Buckeyes came away with a 3-1 (29-31, 30-17, 30-22, 30-20) victory over Northeastern (4-6) in the second round of the Buckeye Classic Friday night in St. John Arena. The victory gave OSU head coach Jim Stone his 500th career victory. OSU's attack saw Stacey Gordon (Sr., Oshawa, Ontario) score a match-high 27 points with Danielle Meyer (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) adding 17.5 and Maya Mapp (Sr., Washington, D.C.) 15 for the Buckeyes. Whitney Turner scored a team-high 20.5 points for Northeastern with three players, Karrin Moore, Larissa Adomat and Kira Batura adding 11 each.
For the match, Ohio State hit .302 to the Huskies' .183. The Buckeyes had a 76-54 advantage in kills and a five-four margin in ace serves. Each squad had seven service errors. Northeastern recorded a 72-69 advantage in digs with Batura collecting a match-high 21. At the net, OSU had a eight to four margin in team blocks. OSU's Meyer and Briana McCarthy (So., Beaver Dam, Wis.) shared match-high honors with five assist blocks each.
Action continues tomorrow in the Buckeye Classic as Northeastern faces Florida International at 4:30 p.m. and Ohio State hosts Montana State at 7 p.m. Those matches will be played at Centerburg High School in Centerburg, Ohio.
Montana State Defeats Florida International, 3-0
Bobcat Megan Zanto has 14 points in the win.
In the second round of the Buckeye Classic, Montana State defeated Florida International, 3-0 (30-20, 30-20, 30-14) with an impressive 15 team blocks. Bobcat Megan Zanto scored a team-high 14 points for Montana State, but their 15 to vie advantage in team blocks held Florida International to a -.027 hitting percentage. Golden Panther Ruth Flemig had a team-high eight points in the match.
For the match, Montana State hit .398 to -.027 for Florida International. The Bobcats had a 43-28 advantage in kills while each team recorded five ace serves and gave up 10 service errors. Defensively, the Bobcats had a 48-32 margin in digs with Montana State's Meggie Malyurek collecting a match-high 13. At the net, the Bobcats held a 15-5 margin in team blocks with Angela Wiebe recording a match-high eight blocks with a solo and seven assists.
