So, now current Roster for 2023
OH: Colyer, Gonzales, Kelley, Acevedo, Patterson, Gregoire, Gamache OPP: Lewis, Gloever S: Pukis, Ferreira, Cline MB: Neal, Bacon, McGhee, Ofoegbu L/DS: Murphy, McClellan, De los Reyes, Thibault
Going to see several RS clearly. Wouldn't be surprised if the last 3 OH redshirt, and either Kelley or Acevedo. Also, likely Cline, Ofoegbu, and even possibly Thibault. Barring injuries, will be hard to not play the most experienced players/transfers, unless they get beaten out.

Do we know if Murphy was back playing last night? It was way too grainy.
Was that Gregoire at L1? I know we have 3 outsides coming in - but it is interesting they're keeping Mimi at L2 for now (I guess with the strength of her back row attack it's a good idea to have that available in the 2-hitter rotations).

No, Murphy was not playing. Ferreira was Libero. Correct, Sophie at L1. Right, Colyer's backrow attack is likely the reason.

4/22 Spring scrimmage vs Beavs:
25-23. Ferreira libero. Colyer, Gregoire OH. Lewis Opp. McGhee, Bacon MB. Pukis setter. Bacon serving for Libero.
Present dressed: Neal, Daley, Murphy, Cline.
28-30. Ferreira libero. Colyer, Gregoire OH. Lewis Opp. McGhee, Bacon MB. Pukis setter. Maya serve/back row for Lewis. Hitters struggled with consistency. Passing placement not always great.
21-25. Ferreira libero. Colyer, Gregoire OH. Lewis Opp. McGhee, Bacon MB. Pukis setter. Maya serve/back row for Gregoire. Struggling to dig balls. Pukis some struggling sets.
Backrow definitely missing Murphy and Brooke. Lewis and Colyer backrow is a struggle. Ferreira did well at libero. Middles effective when set, and both good at slides.
Beavs, though undersized, just were very scrappy and dug alot of balls until they converted. Transfer setter, Schuster, was very effective for the Beavs. All pins were pretty effective.

Only watched part of game vs PSU. Ducks played better. Better blocking, and seems like a better matchup for them.
Vs PSU:
25-20. Ferreira libero. Colyer, Gregoire OH. Lewis Opp. McGhee, Bacon MB. Cline setter. Cline set well. Lewis serves were strong.
15-8. Ferreira libero. Colyer, Gregoire OH. Lewis Opp. McGhee, Bacon MB. Cline setter. Maya backrow for Lewis at times.

Our backup setter was better at libero than any DS we have on the roster? That doesn’t seem good.

Our backup setter was better at libero than any DS we have on the roster? That doesn’t seem good. Valid concern. Well, firstly, Ferreira did great imo. Murphy and McClellan did warm up drills, but both had injuries last year-likely had surgeries after the season ended, so were probably not ready to push it. Probably better for them to be 100% for Fall. Maya has a pretty good serve, but doesn't seem up to level to serve receive, so she is pushed out for serves. I'm sure Murphy and McClellan will be ready for Fall games, plus a solid libero/DS freshman, Thibault will be entering, so we will be good come Fall. Also, Gregoire passes well, so she can be a back row option too.

Barring injuries, will be hard to not play the most experienced players/transfers, unless they get beaten out. I think you are exactly right about a healthy dose of red shirts this year. Unless there are injuries it seems highly improbable that they would bring in experienced, proven 5th year players like Gonzales and play the incoming Freshman instead. Oregon is hedging on experienced veterans to make a run this year. I have seen a lot Gregoire and Acevedo live and up close the last couple of years and I'm confident both of them could/would beat out Gonzales if they had a year of collegiate experience under their belt. But they don't have that experience so Oregon is making the safe play with an experienced player. I just haven't seen much of Kelley to have an opinion but Gregoire and Acevedo both have the potential to be very good 6 rotation pins for the Ducks. It's certainly possible someone comes in and pulls a Colyer but lets be honest that's a fairly rare anomaly. Regardless I think the Ducks are doing great on the recruiting trail with a lot of great talent coming into the program the next couple of seasons.

Our backup setter was better at libero than any DS we have on the roster? That doesn’t seem good. If Murphy is healthy, the Ducks will be fine. Without Murphy it may be a long season.

Pukis is not the answer at setter- too damn inconsistent and very predictable.

that’s certainly a hot take considering what Oregon’s setting has looked like since Raskie graduated🤔

Pukis is not the answer at setter- too damn inconsistent and very predictable. Pukis set Oregon to a higher hitting percentage against Stanford (W), Nebraska (W), and Louisville (had a swing for the match on their home floor in the elite 8). I have a hard time believing that the setting is what Oregon needs to concern itself with. Comments like these is probably why many coaches would prefer to just have closed-door spring training. Casual fans take this block way too seriously.

Spring games there is a lot going on, with connecting to new hitters, getting used to passes by different passers, etc. Pukis clearly demonstrated during the season that she is a phenomenal setter. Plus, her serve is also a weapon. Looking forward to having her set the Ducks for one more season.
