"The Blockinator" Ronika Stone announced her verbal commitment to the University of Oregon. Recruited heavily by many major programs. The Ducks have now put together quite an exceptional 2016 class, which may have the program's first Top 10 Senior Ace and will likely be the first class to have multiple Top 20/Top 25 players. 2016 ClassWillow Johnson, 6-3 lefty OPP (AZ Storm 17) Jolie Rasmussen, 6-2 OH (SDVBC 18) Ronika Stone, 6-2 MB (Vision 18) Brooke Van Sickle, 5-9 OH/L/S/Utility/Sand (Excel NW Rox 17) This goes on top of bringing in a Top 5 class for 2015 that includes 5 players among the Top 54. Your Oregon Ducks are going to be very good in the second half of this decade! How Jim Moore is feeling today:

I think that is a perfect fit for athlete and program, and the choice I was hoping for. Also, her fellow Valley Christian HS alum, Byron Marshall, is happy there (and on this week's cover of SI.)

Have seen VanderWeide, Rasmussen and Stone play. The Ducks are getting some great offense in the next couple of years.

But have seen Rasmussen plenty and have a more cautious view there. Fwiw in important HS matches this season she hit a combined .050 vs Torrey Pines (two league, Open Divison final) and .137 vs Westview (per MaxPreps), and many other teams on the HS schedule were frankly not much of a test. My guess is she won't play back row in college. This club season, I would place her somewhere in the 8-10 range for 2016 OHs in the SCVA. Of course with the Ducks committment she'll likely place high in a PV ranking. Let the hype continue.

I think Willow Johnson is underrated. Was impressed with her while watching Stivrins and Lanier on that Storm squad.

She was picked 3rd team Under Armour, which I think was underrated, and hasn't seemed to generate a lot of buzz. (i think she's closer to her PV ranking.) She pounds the ball.

It seems like you've seen her a bit more than me, but I will say that she sure does pass the eye test though - seems to get up pretty high and has a nice swing. Obviously, there's more to VB than that. Hopefully, she just had some bad matches in those HS matches - I do know that her HS team doesn't quite have the depth of a Torrey Pines so they were probably able to key in on her, and she hit over .300 in the first match. Hopefully she puts in a strong club season and can be a force for the Ducks. I know many are quite high on her potential.

I wonder if VB recruits this Fall will be impressed with the new pumped up kicks? Can't wait to see what Nike and the players came up with!

More color combinations for uniforms (Thanks, Nike) does not necessarily equate to better looking uniforms. Those lime green shorts and jerseys last year were bleaaccchhh.

I guess I'll turn this into the general Oregon thread for some cool stuff out of Oregon media day yesterday:
No home games in the preconference this year, but next year will be pretty much all at home. The Big Four tourney is coming to Eugene, as is Illinois. They set up the schedule with big gap after the pre-season this year because with a young team it gives them a second chance to have a "pre-season" and work on stuff. He also talked about difficulty of early season home matches before the students get there.
Some thoughts from Moore about the team: - This is the strongest we'll be in the middle for as long as Moore can remember. Both freshman will play; not sure who's starting. He lauded Page's quickness and said Gill hits the slide as good as anybody. Nady has potential to do big, big things this year. - August Raskie has surprised with how well she's taken to the system. She's been very, very good and can't count her out of the mix. [Not sure how much of that is coach-speak but as a huge Scott fan it would be a bit shocking to me.] - Bettendorf will be playing 6 rotations and is looking really good out of the backrow. Getting that backrow attack is one of the biggest reasons behind why he's dead set on the 5-1. She is stepping up as the leader. - We have a lot of people playing really well on the outside. Said Vander Weide was just impressive in a couple different ways. Shebby has improved in the offseason but needs to stay consistent. Agost can hit balls nobody in the country can stop when she's "getting after it". - Biggest thing for team's success this year is to stay consistent (I'm reading this as minimizing unforced errors). From how the players talked, it seems the staff is really pounding that into their heads.
