26-24. Daley libero. Gregoire, Acevedo OH-all around. Colyer Opp-all around. Ofoegbu MB. Cline setter. Gamache served for Daley at times. Setting struggles. Coach came in for Ofoegbu at the end after Colyer's serve hit her in the back of the head.
26-24. Daley libero. Colyer, Ohbowete OH-all around. Glover Opp/Patterson DS. Coach Ulmer MB. Cline setter. De los Rios serving for Daley one time.

vs OSU
25-16. Daley libero. Ohwobete, Gregoire OH-both all around. Glover Opp/Colyer DS. Coach MB. Cline setter. Patterson serving for Daley. Played much better than first match. Dug well. Played aggressively.
12-7. Daley libero. Acevedo, Colyer-OH-all around. Glover Opp/ Patterson DS. Coach MB. Cline setter.
I had to leave at that point. Im sure Ofoegbu sitting out was just to be cautious, but it was actually fun to see coach Ulmer playing.

Mimi played one set at opposite today. #It'sHappening. I saw that lol, but barely was set there. Haha, yes but she was 3-for-3 on D balls today, and I think 2-0-3 from Zone 2. That was also her best stretch of passing all season.

OSU won Set 3 (it was Gregoire/Acevedo/Glover, Ohwobete DS), as we started passing like we did against UW and missed a bunch of serves. Was nice to finally get a 2 set stretch of pretty clean serve and pass though, lol. We miss Georgia a lot right now. Wing defenders also need to dig more - OHs were playing great defense but too many missed digs from the others. Serving is very feast or famine right now. Acevedo and Ohwobete had good days both ways, Colyer had a poor opening set but really heat up and was great the rest of the way. Gregoire had another nice hitting day but really struggled passing. Glover got more attempts today. She is lethal in system but not someone we would want to set OOS. OSU has a couple nice transfers - the middle scored well, the opp was way better than she looked at USD, and the setter is tiny but had nice hands.

As a coach I would have a hard time deciding who to start at OH2. For me its close between Acevedo and Ohwobete. I think Ohwobete is better at defending in the back, but I might give Acevedo the slight nod in the front. Can we have Acevedo front row, Ohwobete ds for her and hit from the back. Id like that. I would say Gregoire is just slightly behind them in consistency and effectiveness imo. I was was concerned with Cline's setting at times. I hope the transfer can compete for that spot, because we need that option.

Cline had a couple of clunkers on the run, but she was solid in system and we really were running her everywhere. Her floor defense needs work. I'm more concerned about the passing. If you go back in this thread to this time last year (when Murphy was out for spring ball), people were concerned about Pukis' struggling.

Hoping Morris shores up the defense. I hope Patterson sees playing time. She has a good serve and quick on defense too imo.

That sounds amazing... did anyone record him LMAO. I need a fancam.

I know it really doesn’t matter, but I did NOT see a setter ready to lead a top 16 caliber team in Cline last year.

I know it really doesn’t matter, but I did NOT see a setter ready to lead a top 16 caliber team in Cline last year. Where exactly did you see her? Oregon passed terribly, and Cline still outplayed UW's setter yesterday and got the W. One would think UW fans talking about yesterday's spring scrimmages would be focusing on their own persistent issues.

I know it really doesn’t matter, but I did NOT see a setter ready to lead a top 16 caliber team in Cline last year. I wonder how much competition that NJCAA POY is ready to give her I'm hopeful the transfer is better than Cline and can elevate this rosters potential. Cline has no shortage of swagger and confidence but the skill doesn't back it up. She's all over the place with location. Even the in system sets often aren't in the sweet spot hitting windows for her attackers. The sets are often too low and the weird tempo changes are confusing the pins. No matter how many options the first touch is giving her it's like she's already made up her mind on where she wants to go. Her "preferences" don't line up with the match ups in front of her. Two different people sitting near me made comments about the poor setting. It's a problem.

Bringing back this gem from folks talking about Pukis struggling last spring when we lost a match to OSU: Pukis is not the answer at setter- too damn inconsistent and very predictable.

Bringing back this gem from folks talking about Pukis struggling last spring when we lost a match to OSU: Pukis is not the answer at setter- too damn inconsistent and very predictable. Looks like this was a bizarre rogue comment by a single person about a proven setter that 99.99% of people knew was an elite collegiate setter. They got dragged and were told to log off of the Internet haha! Not the same situation. I know you seem to be really optimistic about Cline but I am just not seeing what you are seeing.

They got dragged and were told to log off of the Internet haha! Not the same situation. I know you seem to be really optimistic about Cline but I am just not seeing what you are seeing. It wasn't a one-off, it was in response to JJ saying Pukis was struggling and the people shouting him down hadn't even see the matches in question. Yeah, setting won't be as good this year. That's a given and was expected when you graduate Hannah Pukis. She puts up bad sets occasionally, particularly on the run, but she bounces back and does a lot of things well. It's not like Pukis or Plum weren't occasionally pushing too fast or miscommunicating the location on the back row either. Cline's also setting a revolving door of pins off of passing significantly worse than we've seen from an Oregon team in a very long time. Her connection with Ofoegbu is insane (it's actually kind of hard to set middles who jump that high in their window as well as she does), she's an offensive threat at the net, she is pushing the tempo (which leads to some of the errors). I'm not comparing her with Pukis. But compared to the pre-Pukis setting situation, she's doing MUCH better than that. Purashaj might come in and win the job. The last NJCAA setter POY (Anchante at Marquette) turned out to be pretty damn good. Or maybe they'll split time - I haven't seen her play. But if Cline starts this Fall (and Morris comes in and does what we expect), we'll be able to win.
