From USA's Website.
"Tentatively, the GYNTT will train July 11-24 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with the final 12-player U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team (GYNT) roster selected on July 19. The squad, along with the alternates, will compete in the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships held July 19-23 in Fort Lauderdale. The team will reconvene in Puerto Rico and compete in the NORCECA Women’s U18 Continental Championship with tentative dates set for Aug. 26-Sept. 5."
I find it very interested that the YNTT will compete in the USA HP Championship as part of the tryout. I bet some A1 Kids will be chomping at the bit to show the YNT folks the made a mistake. lol.

I would guess a decent number of the considerations will be missing a week of school, right at the beginning of the year, to travel for a tournament. That might make some kids/parents think twice.

To represent the USA in International competition? There will be school when they get back. You don't get a memory like that to carry with you for life everyday. Besides, these girls have only been selected to the national team tryout. You have to make the team first. I say you attend and hope you don't make it if that's your mindset. lol

Yeah that's probably not too much of a concern for most.

One name not on the YNTT which shocks me is Paula Cerame. She has been in the HP program for years and has consistently been one of the best Libero's. Only 3 liberos, and one of them was not HP. That is an awfully small and tough group to crack in to. That's an understatement. lol Which is why being an A1 libero ain't a bad thing.

She is friends with my daughter and she declined the invitation; she is been highly recruited and she is doing college camps during the summer instead of HP.

Perhaps. A1 Youth is not A1 Select. This is the cross-year. Many of A1 Select girls that did try out (again, some passed to attend recruiting camps in this July) if not selected to YNTT will decline A1 training camp. You will get a different set of girls. And, the top teams at A1 Youth training will be very good. But, in my view, if you are not committed yet and have a 2000 birthday, I would recommend your preferred college recruiting camp in July over A1 training camp. Particularly, if you are a Libero and want to play at a top school in college. Best example is Kelty Hori (2015 high school class). She was A1 Youth and A1 Junior Libero. Not A1 Select. Focused on A1 camps vs. college camps in July. Unsigned senior. Plays club at LMU; but, did get an invite to tryout for the USA National team in February (with the 240 college studs) based on her historical A1 performance. Nice list. The photo with the press release shows Stone and Lanier (from last summer). Neither on the list. Assume they passed. 2018 girl is Thayer Hall. Recent FL commit. Likely 1999 birthday.

It's that plus 5-7 days in the spring for club tournaments, possibly several days for high school games, And maybe they want to take a vacation at some point that doesn't involve volleyball. Heaven forbid. I am completely understand people that don't try out or don't accept a spot. it has almost no bearing on where they end up down the road in the pipeline, especially when they are 13/14/15 years old.

Nice job Mackenzie May! Good to see someone rep UCLA I said it earlier but UCLA is quietly building a great two year class between 2016 and 2017. Loom for them to give any team a run for its money in 2018 and 2019.

At the Youth level players are required to attend the GYNTT, July 11-24 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. If you make the final 12-player U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team (GYNT) roster, the team will reconvene in Puerto Rico and compete in the NORCECA Women’s U18 Continental Championship with tentative dates set for Aug. 26-Sept. 5. There is no spring session I'm aware of, and if you tryout you know that there is a lengthy commitment (around 20 - 30 days). A high school game over a TEAM USA game... really? No high school game is worth missing that for, I'm sorry. Lastly, if you have Olympic aspirations, which is why the pipeline exists, why would you not want to be on the YNT? If your kid wants to take a vacation instead of attending tryouts, then I say they might not be as aspiring as her parents might want her to be.
