It looks like USC wanted there frosh setter to come early to work with there hitters as Baylee Johnson of NKYVC is no longer in the roster. Reports in her twitter that she is heading to Los Angeles right after she graduates.

You would have thought the spring quarter would have already started at USC. I thought she was there already? Are you saying she hasn't graduated yet? Or she did early?

I saw Johnson play two years ago and it looks like USC found a gem of a setter. I hope she can set the moonball offense Mick likes to run. I think USC will be very good with the addition of Ford in the outside and Reed in the middle. I wont be surprise at all if Ford starts at OH2. She is a dynamic hitter for only 5'9 and can go over the a big block, plus she already like her sets to be bit higher. It will be an improvement on there current duo of Gillis/Ruddins who puts up a weak block.

If any of you attended the Wise/Johnson-Lynch/Haley setting session at Convention, you know this is a dream come true for Mick Haley.

Just for novelty's sake, I'm hoping Mick adopts the Hybrid 6 next year with Johnson opposite Ogoms.

She looks fantastic in high school competition and is an exciting player to watch with her vertical jump and hard hitting. However, against good open club teams with good blockers I have seen her struggle. I don’t see her flourishing in a moon ball offense. She looks like Bria Russ 2.0 to me. Ford is an average passer IMO. She has the same strengths and weaknesses as what Mick has too much of now in his pin hitters. Hopefully the new setter will help Mick. He needs someone quicker than the player from Italy.

Here is a trajectory chart Mick uses for his setters that she will need to study. Note that in the moonball O, the top path is the desired one and lower paths are rejected outright.

I would disagree Ford doesn't do as well vs. top competition. Her sophomore year she carried Laguna 18's, and was much better than Ruddins. Against TAV that year, the top team in the country with Ebony blocking on the right, Ford put the team on her shoulders and beat them. Not bad for a then-sophomore to overpower Ebony and the best club team in the country that year. Her biggest issue will be serve receive in college, not if she can get kills or not. She's a much better hitter than Bria Russ ever was.

We will see soon if Ford can handle the Pac-12 big blockers. My point is that she would be no worse than Gillis/Ruddins combo and she probably is a better blocker.

She'll struggle a lot, if she sees any time in the front row (which I highly doubt). She will be another Urango/Russ. Could've played a much bigger role on a different team.

Couldn't agree more....it saddens me that her parents were not able to persuade her to be the big fish in a smaller different pond.

In addition to Mr. Magoo, we can nickname Haley "Moonball Mick".
