Haven't really been following, but why aren't Lokomativ Baku and Dynamo Krasnador playing here? Saw a match between them and they're pretty awesome. Champions league is the first division and CEV Cup the second division of the European League. Challenge phase is the play-in/stay-in competition (bottom of CL and top finishers of CEV Cup) to determine next year's participants (Nantes for example competed in Champions League this year but finished low. They have to win to stay in 1st division). No. Champions League bids are allocated based on domestic league finish (why Fenerbahce won CL in 2012 but didn't qualify for the competition the next year). CEV has a country ranking system (based on aggregate results for the past 3/4 seasons) that determines how many spots each country gets in each cup.

I looked at the match ups only and confused that.

There is also a CEV Cup that is in the "challenge phase" at the beginning of March which has Atom Trefl SOPOT-Deja McClendon,Brittnee Cooper) and other former USA college players(NANTES VB-Ariel Turner; Rabita BAKU-Tori Dixon,Foluke Akinradewo) just to name a few. link. What is the difference between these European Cups( CEV Cup and the CEV Champions league)? I'm just starting to follow these European matches. Just the first sentence of the post is completely accurate. Check C4's correction for details.

On paper, Vakifbank and Fenerbahce are the clear favorites. Ezacibazi has a ton of talent but they haven't performed as well as expected.
Dinamo Moscow and Chemik Police have been playing very well lately. I could definitely see them pulling some upsets.

Currently, here's how the top 6 stack up in Turkey: 1. Vakifbank 2. Eczacibasi 3. Fenerbahce 4. Galatasaray 5. Nilufer 6. Idmanocag
Last Friday, Montano's and Kim's Fenerbahce squad swept De La Cruz's and Larson's Eczacibasi team. The first set was back and forth until 25-25, when Neslihan hit wide and Montano buried the ball from the backcourt to end the set at 27-25. Ecza's passing fell completely apart in the final two sets (25-20 and 25-15) when Fener targeted both De La Cruz and Gulden, who had their share of shanks and service reception errors. It also didn't help that Furst sat out the entire match (she was present in warmups, so I'm not sure if she's slightly injured or just resting against Agel?), but it wouldn't have mattered, because Maja and Busra only had 11 total attempts combined.

Unfortunately, only the winner between Fener and Vakif will advance to the FF, so Turkey can only have, at most, 2 teams in the FF. Oh I know. Just saying that those are probably the 3 strongest teams this year, and my bet is, one of them wins it all. Kazan misses Larson, Volero (while CT has always been stellar with this team) lacks huge weapons, RC Cannes is rather inconsistent, and Moscow could surprise me but I don't think they can only rely on Obmochaeva as they have been and win it all. Kazan definitely misses Larson. Del Core has done a really good job of carrying the team on the left, but Gamova is the only one that is helping her out. Their middles are nonexistent. Disagree about Zurich. They have a ton of firepower, but they can't pass well enough to run a good offense. Thompson is alright, but Antonjevic is better. Is she injured?

Seriously, why isn't she starting setter?

Seriously, why isn't she starting setter? I’ve been impressed with Thompson over Antonijevic. Court is currently ranked fourth of all setters that have started every match—only behind Ferretti, Lo Bianco, and Ognjenovic but ahead of Naz, TomKom, Kosianenko, and Startseva. Keep in mind that Thompson doesn’t have Kenia (who went to Brazil to play) or Golubovic (who retired) this season, who were both top scorers in last year’s CEV CL. Also Mammadova is past her prime and hasn’t had the same form since her shoulder surgeries a couple months ago. IMO the right setter is out on the court.

Eczacibasi swept Vakifbank this season in league play so not really sure what you mean by that. They took Fenerbahce to 5 games the first go round as well.

You can't really use Turkish League results to project out to Champions League. Those teams all get a lot better when they play with the full set of foreigners and the weaker Turkish players get pushed to a reserve role. (Also why the Turkish League is a bit lower level than CEV results would make it seem).

Breaking News Update: Gamova sporting ombre blonde....lol Seriously -- I love Sheila and Gamova going at it! Gamova plays terrible... until 24-24 when she hits the prettiest pipe ever. Kazan takes Set 1. Vakif plays poorly but takes Set 2. Kazan had late lead but passing break down, and Gamova hasn't shown up yet.
