Eczacibasi drops set 1 and wins set 2 easily. One thing I notice about Eczacibasi is that they need to loosen up. They have heavy game faces on after every point, even when they're up 23-13. It's like they expect to win every point. De la Cruz brings a canon, and Larson is showing some of the best attacking I've ever seen from her. I don't understand why they're constantly so critical of themselves; they have sparks of greatness.

Eczacibasi swept Vakifbank this season in league play so not really sure what you mean by that. They took Fenerbahce to 5 games the first go round as well. You can't really use Turkish League results to project out to Champions League. Those teams all get a lot better when they play with the full set of foreigners and the weaker Turkish players get pushed to a reserve role. (Also why the Turkish League is a bit lower level than CEV results would make it seem). Granted, but that still doesn't warrant the claim that Vakifbank is a clear favorite over Eczacibasi when they lost twice to them this year.

Kazan-Vakif going 5. Gamova finally got over when she got to hit against Gozde (who came in for a mental Vasileva day).
Vakif wins running away in the 5th. The Turks' service game (esp. Sheilla) proved too much in the end. Costa and Rasic both seemed to have pretty good days.

Stats: www.cev.lu/Competition-Area/MatchStatistics.aspx?ID=269704 Vakif aces in set 5 and another in 4 in Set 2(which they stole) the difference. Sheilla and Gamova both with 24 points. Poor hitting percentage for Sheilla made up for by the serve (despite two foot faults) and defense, Katya ended up having a strong hitting day. Tough day for Nikolaeva (read: Larson was missed). Picked on in serve receive and hit negative. Started well - she hammered the ball at the block and got some good deflections early but that's not sustainable.

So, if Kazan wins 3-0 or 3-1 in Istanbul does it go to a golden set, or do they automatically go through? Vakif didn't seem as sharp today, but I expect Vasileva to play much better next week. Good day for all the middles, too bad Kazan doesn't set them a bit more.

I didn't think Vakif played well, Naz was shaky. They'll be better at home, and it may be quick win for the Turks next week.

Anyone know how to follow the Turkish under-20 tournament? www.tvf.org.tr/icerik/245/Here’s a link to the Turkish Women’s U-20 Youth League with standings and results, but it doesn’t include any information regarding the tournament. I would check NTV Sporsmart, Turkey’s ESPN, but you have to use a proxy website or DNS server to access it if you live in the U.S. to bypass geo-blocking. It’s the same steps you have to follow if, say, you had a layover in Paris but wanted to watch Netflix in Charles de Gaulle. You just need a program that can change your DNS server to the desired country’s service’s DNS address, so NTV Sporsmart will see you as a Turkish resident.
