I would agree with the Sedore and West remarks for first team, both playing spectacular in their positions. I'll take Walsh for FOY as the wildcard for an equally deserving Arnitz

agree with fetchin, micah is not 1st team setter this year. he has been outplayed by seif and west. Christenson looks tired at times..... hate to be a homer but LaCavera is POY maybe co with Tamir(who has fallen off a bit the last few matches) Zach is your monster

I think only one middle deserves first team all american this year and thats Averill, the rest have been Meh. Bobby Walsh has out blocked Averill and their hitting percentages are virtually the same. Both are having outstanding seasons. POY Aaron Russell

Thought it would be fun to drag this post back and look at how these calls might have changed. Making a new call now that the season is about up. Setters: Micah, hutz, west Middles: averill, Olson, grosh byu, idk who else, Walsh(s)? Outsides: jaeschke, taylor, Caldwell?, Powell (don't like though), petty (not a fan either, just because), Russell psu, herschko passing is just too atrocious from Lewis I don't know how they win. Haven't watched much though Opp: kalmbach, la camera L: Brinkley, Anderson, don't think kanetake is good enough in sr, and overpasses free balls frequently Foy: Walsh, jendryk Kanetake is the reason Hawaii's back row defense has been on point all season long. And he has been doing it with a slight back injury that has hopefully healed.

Both are having outstanding seasons. POY Aaron Russell The difference being that Averill is putting up those kind of numbers in the MPSF rather than the MIVA. They are double and triple teaming Averill but he still gets the job done. No offense to Walsh. But I agree....both are having phenomenal seasons!

S - Micah Christenson, Matt West, Jonah Seif OH - Tamir Hershko, Josh Taylor, Thomas Jaeshke, Jake Langlois, Geoff Powell MB - Taylor Averill, Nick Olson, Jason Agopian, Robert Feathers Opp - Zach La Cavera, Parker Kalmbach L - Brinkley, Anderson, Reyes FOY - Arnitz, Jendryk Is Nck Olson even starting anymore? It's going to be really hard to pick an AA team with all of the juggling going on at so many schools. S: Christensen, West, Seif, Hutz OH: Jaeschke (PoY), Taylor, Hershko, Langlois, Powell, Russell, Kessel, Michelau MB: Averill, McAndrews, Walsh, OPP: Sedore, LaCavera, Donahue, Mather L: Brinkley FoY: Szerszen (Hathaller a distant second and Jendryk thrid) The team I selected is as much who I think they'll choose as much as who deserves the honor. They may choose Kalmbach over Taylor. I'd love to see Saetta get some love, but Brinkley and two pin hitters will likely get the nod from UCI. I think Lewis might get a third player (mosty likely Petty), but only listed two. Loyola will get at least three players named. I only put one BYU player on the team because McGowen has juggled that lineup so much that no one is putting up AA numbers. From the MIVA, Omar Rivera and Marcon Niemczewski could sneak in there as well. I think the PSUIVA gets two players at most. Assuming the Conference Carolinas gets a player, it has to be Michelau or his teammate Perez-Vargas. There is a good deal of volleyball still to play, and it's been a crazy season in many ways. Perhaps someone like Orenic will put up AA numbers the rest of the season and cement a spot. I think the team that wins the MPSF will get three players at least, so I have UCI with three at the moment, but would adjust in the event another team wins the conference title. Good post- you've done your homework. I think Aaron Russell is my vote for player of the year, and Matt West is the best setter I've watched. Other than Averill, I think Bobby Walsh is having more impact than any other middle.

Could you see any other current college players besides Micah realistically representing our country in Rio 2016? Averill, Russel, Jaeschke, Brinkley ??

Both are having outstanding seasons. POY Aaron Russell Walsh is hitting .466 with less KPS, while averill is hitting .505 with more kps. Averill also has more kills per set. So no, their hitting percentages aren't virtually the same.

My apologies, I was wrong. Lewis has their current stats listed for the 2013 season

Lewis has their current stats listed for the 2013 season it's ok, your point still applies. averill is hitting at about the same clip as walsh, on far more attempts. averill's kills per set (2.98) is nearly twice walsh's (1.51). far more impressive to be hitting over .500 when you're relied upon so much more...

And he has been doing it with a slight back injury that has hopefully healed. Everyone has injuries. Everyone plays through them. He only say against San Diego because they are a subpar team. Kanetake does get digs, but he blows a lot of digs also. He is too small and everything looks extended. He makes good moves sure, but larger Libero steps and and gets a ball kanetake sprawls through. Exciting, but overall... He also hs overpasses many many free balls. I've seen it and read it several times on this site. The most important aspect of a Libero is service receive. Digging is good, but your offense depends on being in system. Evan mottram was AA two years ago, although getting only just above 2 digs per set, he was solid in serve receive. Anderson and Brinkley are much more superior in serve receive, therefore knocking kanetake out of the conversation. I would give hawaii some credit, siki and averill will be AA, but sedore does not quite match la Cavera or kalmbach, so I don't think he will get it.

I think Kanetake is a fantastic libero, but no way he gets AA. Brinkley and Anderson will though. I disagree about Sedore though. He has kept Hawaii in matches. Has been struggling, but I have him on the AA list. No way Hawaii has the season they're having without Sedore.
