I saw “The Wiz” before Christmas. Holy cow-some talented people on the stage. The cast I saw is opening on Broadway soon. It was a lot of fun.

Not sure if these are "musicals" in the strict sense, but has anyone here seen the stage adaptation for Hayao Miyazaki classic animation "My Neighbor Totoro" and "Spirited Away" stage adaptation? Never heard of it! Well...then its time you do: My Neighbor Totoro: Spirited Away (John Caird, who won the Tony award for directing Les Miserables, is directing the English stage adaptation, this is the Japanese trailer for the stage version):

I was intrigued when I saw the trailers too, since I have watched quite a few Studio Ghibli films, I was curious to know what the stage adaptation is like. As a sidenote, the stage adaptations seem to feature the original music from the films. That is important, as almost all Hayao Miyazaki films are scored by composer Joe Hisaishi, his music is acclaimed by many fans. Joe is to Miyazaki like how Danny Elfman is to Tim Burton or John Williams is to Steven Spielberg, acclaimed composer-director partnership that has created magical music experience. To listen to a live rendering of Joe's music on stage would be magnificent.

I did! Visually it looks amazing! Not sure if I can get over my live-is-best attitude for the movie, but I will try! Didn’t like the riff at the end of Defying Gravity. I’ve seen some incredible Elphaba’s do that riff a LOT better! Did you know it’s going to be 2 parts? Not sure how long they will wait between.

Driving downtown yesterday I saw this season’s shows plastered on the side of the civic theater. Some that I had never heard of: A Neil Diamond Musical - I like him, but… Back To The Future - this sounds ridiculous Some Like It Hot - why compete with an iconic movie? Shucked - wut? Are any of these any good?

Some incredible special effects with the DeLorean. Some Like It Hot-Didn’t last long on Broadway. Terrible reviews. Shucked-My friend saw this and said it was really funny. A spoof about HeeHaw type stuff.

Here’s our line up: Girl From North County - Don’t know anything about it Mrs. Doubtfire - Excited for this! Funny Girl - Saw it on Broadway. Great music. I liked the movie better. Kimberly Akimbo - I think it’s about a woman who ages really quickly. So she’s a high schooler, but looks 45-50. I heard it’s very good. Some Like It Hot - Closed pretty quick in NYC. Wicked - I will go back for the 16th time Mamma Mia - I’ve seen this 5-6 times. I’ll happily go again. Life of Pi - No clue Moulin Rouge - Saw this on Broadway. Loved the music. Can’t decide if I loved or hated the story. It’s pretty bizarre.

I saw MJ The Musical last night. I was worried I wouldn’t like it because how on earth could anyone be MJ better than the guy I saw on Broadway. But he was REALLY good. The guy must be exhausted at the end!!!! Hard to stay in my seat!!!!!
