Texas is loaded don't get me wrong, so maybe its my bias talking, but with ebony, it would be a freshman sitting the bench most likely, and since texas runs a 6-2, that still gives either Yazzie or white? (don't know if she's the one they were looking at as an OH), playing time. Wisconsin, you would have Bates, Kriskova, Gillis and Nwanebu, plus with their amazing Freshman Class. Who rides the bench during that time? And Nebraska returns EVERY pin hitter and MB, not to mention, a player who can play MB, OH and Opp according to posters, so who rides the bench then? Texas gives her the best oppurtunity to play, not to mention its closer to home. But wherever she is happy is the best place. Even without Brooke Morgan, I don't think Nwanebu complicates much for Williams or Nelson. Things would be more interesting on the right side with Kriskova currently projected as the starter. In MY opinion, Kriskova is a good replacement for Thomas, but Nwanebu in good form is a GREAT, game-changing replacement. The arsenal of hitters on the left would be Bates, Gillis, Duello, Kriskova, and even Saunders. Without bias, I think Nwanebu makes an impact at Wisconsin more than Nebraska or Texas. The question would become whether Kriskova beats out incoming freshman OHs, and I think, assuming she fully recovers from knee surgery, is that she would and starts at OH. What was a very young team now has potentially a senior, three juniors, two sophomores and a freshman starting.

Madison was alive today with everyone enjoying the sunny 80 degree weather. You couldn't pick a better day to hang out. With all the late spring/early summer invite only programs for elite players, plus the inevitable time off of school, how much time in late may until report day will Ebony really be spending in Madison anyway? Is the question how long does she have to complete visits/whatnot before declaring? I'm also curious to know what the time period is. I saw someone post that she's visiting schools in late May (obvi) and could decide in early June.

July 1 is the absolute deadline for notification of renewal or non-renewal of athletic aid. this wouldnt be an issue of renewal or non-renewal. She has said that she would decide this week. I'm not sure that there are any deadlines that would apply here beyond the start of formal practices in August and whatever admission/transfer application deadlines a given school has. If I understand and am doing the math correctly, all the schools she's visited have a scholarship available, so like Dorothy said, the 7/1 deadline would not apply. Nobody's getting a scholarship pulled to make room for her. The point earlier, I think, was that those schools have scholarships free, and the ones who Ebony doesn't choose will now have those available, either to give to a walk-on or to slate for a 2016 (it's probably to late to grab a 2015, and most transfers are wrapped up at this point). I think June/July is a time when a lot of prep players start narrowing their lists and making decisions, so it would be really helpful for the coaches and prep players to know how many 2016 scholarships they have to play with. But if she makes her decision this week, everyone should be in good shape.

It's not her deadline necessarily, but it is the deadline for coaches to decide their existing scholarship roster.

There would be solid firm facts, not allusions or suppositions to discuss! a few suggested discussion topic -Is Ebony healthy? -What will the other schools do with their Ebony scholarship? -Does Alyssa D'errico follow Ebony to _____? -Ebony said on twitter that she refused to pull an all nighter - will she be eligible to play with such poor study habits? -Will Keegan Cook change his last name to Nwanebu to avoid being confused with John Cook? -How much does Mick hate (fill in name of coach who gets Ebony) now? -Mango might ask why Ebony was allowed to go to a school with a male coach? Should players like Ebony be made to play for female coaches? -Ebony is playing with ____ - how will they ever lose!?!

It's not her deadline necessarily, but it is the deadline for coaches to decide their existing scholarship roster. I'll have to look into it, as I know of cases of returning players who have been walk-ons being scholarship ed in pre-season. Can I ask why coaches would have to have a deadline, if their isnt a deadline necessarily?

The renewal of institutional financial aid based in any degree on athletics ability shall be made on or before July 1 prior to the academic year in which it is to be effective. The institution shall promptly notify in writing each student-athlete who received an award the previous academic year and who has eligibility remaining in the sport in which financial aid was awarded the previous academic year (under Bylaw 12.8) whether the grant has been renewed or not renewed for the ensuing academic year. Notification of financial aid renewals and nonrenewals must come from the institution’s regular financial aid authority and not from the institution’s athletics department. (Revised: 1/10/95) 15.3.5.2 Reconsideration of Nonrenewal. It is permissible for an institution that has notified a student-athlete that he or she will not be provided institutional financial aid for the next academic year subsequently to award financial aid to that student-athlete. If a coach is holding open a scholarship at this point in time, there's not really an issue. If a scholarship for Ebony is going to become from a non-renewal, the notification of non-renewal for that other athlete has to be given by July 1st. There isn't anything that prevents awarding a scholarship later, even to an athlete who was not renewed, except that it generally has to be for a full academic year (with certain exceptions for mid-year graduates, athletes who hadn't received athletic aid before, etc.).

We can discuss what Nwanebu's eating habits are like and if they've improved since she fractured her back in Montreux doing nothing out of the ordinary besides maybe landing flat-footed on a regular swing which should only affect shin splints. I don't know how any student survives on the crap universities serve in their cafeterias.
Good for her for not pulling all-nighters.

I didn't know for sure that they each had open, uncommitted scholarships at this point.

Wisconsin lost Brooke Morgan, Nebraska lost Haggerty, and Baylor had a coaching change so things are always a bit up in the air. Texas is the only one I am curious about. Where did they get a scholarship for a transfer? How would landing Nwanebu impact their recruiting in '16-'18?

Pilar Victoria transferred to Arkansas; Sara Hattis went full time basketball and has given up volleyball; and Tiffany Baker retired due to nagging injuries and graduated this weekend.
