Going to be some nasty travel for the top teams as they are in Gstaad at a Major the week before and in Japan for a Grand Slam the week after.

I note that the AVP's events are all listed as four days (Thursday-Sunday). I assume Thursday is the qualifier? (I haven't actually been to AVP event for a few years now.)

Should be a ton of foot traffic at least. Glad that East Coast thing wasn't a bluff. May try to make it to NYC for this one

It will be interesting to see which teams show and which teams decide to pass on this stop. It is a decent flight to Toyko (many non stops) and the sponsors will probably like the top players present.

Any teams that no-show this event, or any AVP event, without a legit injury should be suspended. That travel schedule is not that bad. Unless they win Gstaad they are leaving on the 10th or 11th and dont need to be in NYC until the 17th (probably get there the 16th though, but still five days.
To Tokyo is worse but there are three days after the AVP event, again assuming these teams dont lose early, if players arent in the qualifier. After that is six weeks of pool play which is one or two matches a day, which is not exactly a challenge.

Hey, Johnbar What are FIVB events like compared to AVP? How many courts are usually set up? Do they charge admission every day? How much? Are you allowed to take in water? How about umbrellas and chairs to set up courtside? Thanks!

Hey, Johnbar What are FIVB events like compared to AVP? How many courts are usually set up? Do they charge admission every day? How much? Are you allowed to take in water? How about umbrellas and chairs to set up courtside? Thanks! Hmmm... let me think. Each has been a little different. But for Long Beach, I think there were only four courts (stadium plus three), and the men and women were scheduled at different times. I don't remember any problem bringing in your own water bottles. I had a press pass, so I'm not sure about admission. I think the outer courts were free, at least for the first few days. And I was only there for the pool play and first rounds, not Saturday/Sunday. Not sure about chairs or umbrellas; but I think it was pretty casual around the outer edges of the outer courts. Though maybe they restricted access in the narrow space between the courts? Basically it seemed like a slightly overblown AVP event.

Thanks, guys. They didn't let us take water into the AVP tourney in St. Pete which was disappointing....if admission is free, we'll call it even. I appreciate the information provided by both of you.
