Nothing against Omaha but it's Omaha not Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, New York, Houston, Miami or any other big city where you have a few more people. Then they didn't market the event at all. Attendance would've been awful no matter where they played. I can vouch for this. I know many Husker volleyball season ticket holders who love volleyball in general but have no clue this event is even going on. The promotion was lousy to say the least. Omaha is an event town, the locals will turn out if an event is promoted well. Omaha sold out the Olympic swim trials and there are almost no avid swim fans in this area.

I feel like they should give tickets out for free now to create a better atmosphere. This is why the final was always held in Japan. Now all the teams will have to play in a pretty flat and boring environment, not at all fitting for the final round.

I'd thought having it in Omaha was a brilliant move. Nebraskans love them some volleyball, and with 3 Husker alums playing for USA, I was sure that they'd have a decent turnout during the daytime matches and pack the place at night. Nebraska is one of two schools in the country where women's volleyball is a revenue sport, for crying out loud!
This is not what I was expecting at all.

I will go so far as to say that having a stadium this empty = being bad hosts.

Wow!!!! hate to see husker in your screen name. First of all, the attendance matched the other country's attendance during the same time of day. Secondly, "they didn't market the event at all?" I saw plenty here, if your medium is facebook, twitter, etc. which I suspect you are comparing, but TV and Omaha World-Herald have been promoting volleyball in the last 2 weeks, why they even have a "build your own" volleyball player (life size) And lastly, your "many husker volleyball season ticker holders" have no clue this is going on is BS.

If they can't make it in Omaha they won't make it anywhere. My issue isn't with Omaha. Volleyball is big in Nebraska. Only in Hawaii could you make a similar pitch. Omaha successfully hosts the Swimming Olympic Trials and sells out every four years. So USA Swimming keeps selecting it to host. It likely comes down to marketing, ticketing, and scheduling. I don't expect it to be raucous and teeming to the rafters. But I did expect there to be a bit more people if not a tad more buzz instead of the echo chamber that we're seeing for the first couple matches.

Goncharova is tearing up Italy like a soft mozzarella. 19 kills in two sets.
