Nothing against Omaha but it's Omaha not Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, New York, Houston, Miami or any other big city where you have a few more people. If they can't make it in Omaha they won't make it anywhere. My issue isn't with Omaha. Volleyball is big in Nebraska. Only in Hawaii could you make a similar pitch. Omaha successfully hosts the Swimming Olympic Trials and sells out every four years. So USA Swimming keeps selecting it to host. It likely comes down to marketing, ticketing, and scheduling. I don't expect it to be raucous and teeming to the rafters. But I did expect there to be a bit more people if not a tad more buzz instead of the echo chamber that we're seeing for the first couple matches. Why not have it down here in Texas? You have 4 locations that would draw well. (Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston) You'd have to market it through the clubs. Perhaps give everyone with a USAV membership one ticket. Then they can bring their parents, siblings and fill the place.

when will usa v japan pop up? FIVB says it starts 8:05pm local (central) time .. so i'd try one of the following links around 8 to see which it is. you can manipulate the URLs for each match yourself to get the good one - the links have been quite consistent http://universalsports.com/video/fivb-volleyball-world-grand-prix-omaha-ne-usa-vs-japan/ http://universalsports.com/video/fivb-volleyball-world-grand-prix-omaha-ne-japan-vs-usa/

russianvolley has some fun reading - one post has..
Obmochaeva admitted that she doubted the expediency of participation of the Russian team in the final round of the Grand Prix, which will take place in the United States. Yesterday, Head coach Yuri Marichev and his team won the Turkish team with a convincing 3: 1 result (26:24, 17:25, 25:23, 25:21). “The girls want to go to America. Everyone is interested to play with the best teams in the world. We’ll try to get qualified, but personally I have my doubts that we need such a trip. The history and my personal experience suggest that World Grand Prix Finals did not bring good luck to the Russian national team. Two years ago, we did not get to the “Final six” of Grand Prix, but then we won the gold of the European Championship. In 2010, the team even didn’t join the Grand Prix, but we won the world championship. In 2011 we went to Macau for the Grand Prix finals, afterwards we played so poorly in the European Championship. Last year we got a bronze medal from Grand Prix in Japan, but we could not make it on the award platform at the World Championships. This is such an interesting pattern that I have observed.” – quotes from Obmochaeva at Sport-Express.

If you are not basing attendance from the camera watching the up reference, attendance does look bad. However I was at the first match and for some reason Most of the fans were on the same side as the main camera.
I left to go eat and more people were just starting to get come in. I'm sure it will be be much better for the last match

Do teams not take the Grand Prix seriously? It seems like that because a lot of the good players have not played. What would you rank the tournaments during the quad years? Olympics being #1?

Most of the fans were on the same side as the main camera. again, smart fans - sitting opposite 1st ref for best view, rather than "face time" on cam. did you see signs/banners for teams from fans in the crowd? i didnt notice any

They used to. This year is a bit tricky, however, as World Cup is REALLY early this year (end of August). In 2011, for example, it was played the last week of October/first week of November; hence why China didn't send their starters, Serbia did everything they could not to qualify (that one is a head-scratcher because they aren't that good despite talent and could probably have used the practice), and Brazil divided their squad due to the Pan Am Games being played concurrently with the WGP Finals.

Universal Sports is apparently requiring you to log-in via your cable provider to watch the live-stream.
I'll be watching the FIVB youtube stream with Hola Unblocker set to Suisse.

http://instagram.com/p/5dWLyaHq1e Looks like Glass was at practice this morning. Seems to be really favoring that right leg when setting. Glad to have her back in the gym regardless.
