I still think china and brazil have something to say about that... The US is above everyone else right now ( who would have thought that a decade ago) , but I fear they will choke again in the gold medal match in Rio. I would wait until after World Cup to claim that the US is "above everyone" as we've yet to see China's full line-up and are 2-3 against them on the season (in matches of limited importance and reflection of full strength teams). Zhu Ting is simply better than our outsides and to think about how strong their 18-yr old middle and Changning Zhang could be a year from now with Wei back at the helm and it's a scary thought. It's funny how quickly many have seemed to forget about the Chinese with Lang Ping leaving the starters at home, but even the B squad has been impressive this week.

Post Brazil match Karch is quoted saying the middles did a great job organizing the squad defensively. Can someone more familiar with the program clarify what he meant? Are the middles responsible for simply making sure the defensive game plan is followed or are the changing on the fly? Well the middles are typically organizing the block which affects everything else. For instance, if they're blocking line on the pins then back row has to defend the cross court. Blockers can try to filter the opponents balls to certain areas of the court, into the teeth of the defense, and they can do this with consistent blocking patterns. They also have the best view of the current opponent rotation and formation. So also for this reason they're ideal to communicate to the back row players who are often obstructed.

So - Next comes the first qualification tournament for Rio; The World Cup - where the top 2 3 finishers will qualify. It will be fun to watch how Team US A evolves over the next year! IMO; The players that have the inside track to Rio so far, are the ones that are at the WGP. In defense of Easy; Even though she didn't play much, Karch kept her around the main group at the WGP so she could catch up with what has changed over her 'time off', and not send her to the Pan Am's where she could beat up on teams there. Over the last year I watched Kim Hill go from a back court liability to a much better than average back court player at this level, and I wish Megan Easy all the best as she tries to do the same. And Karsta Lowe: so fun to watch play - very welcome to Team US A!

Karch's got to being going with his best lineup today. Don't think he wants to take a chance taking a loss on national TV especially against the Chinese B team although most viewers won't know that.

Is Easy starting?
Edit: Yes. And the first thing I hear is the announcers saying: " They're going after Megan Hodge".

Did Sundy just say Lowe wasn't efficient enough this tournament? She hit .442 over the first 4 matches.
