For both the Russia and Brazil match the setting goes down a notch when Thompson comes in. Kreklow is very good.

My question, when Glass comes back is "Do we need to rely as heavily on the double sub?". Glass is a great blocker and Karsta has shown that she can hit out of the back row when needed. Do they leave them in and use the double sub less, more in certain situations? I'll take a 6'4" Fawcett blocking instead of a 6'0" Glass, especially since Kreklow has shown she can run this offense. Glass is probably the best blocking setter in the world right now. She might not be 6'4" (which has nothing to do with blocking but I'm not gonna go there right now) but she's certainly not a liability in the front row. Kreklow has been doing an admirable job but she tries to do too much sometimes and ends up trapping her hitters. I'm still hoping that Glass recovers in time to cement herself as a starter in Rio.

Gabi, Natalia, and Lins will be in Rio. If Gabi and Natalia are starters, I like USA's chances in Rio. They won't be starters but they will be on the roster. Aside from the third MB spot, their projected roster for Rio is pretty obvious. And whoever said Gabi is the future of Brazilian volleyball needs to #haveseveralseats

And for the record, I've been very impressed with Lowe this tournament. She's adapted to the fast offense a lot more easily than I thought she would. Excited to see her grow. Busto got REALLY lucky.

Question - Glass may be the best blocking setter, but we're not comparing her to another setter. Do you think she blocks better than Fawcett? IMO, no. My mention of Kreklow was more of her as the double sub with Fawcett, assuming Glass returns as starter. In that scenario I like the double sub.

So what determines the all star team? Is it statistics, or is it voted upon by coaches?

Wow, Italy beats Japan 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 28-30, 26-24, 24-22). Japan had 110 digs and Italy had 93. It was a good match!

[...] Only matches in the final round count toward crowning a champion. Finals standings are determined by: • Match wins • Match points (THREE for winning 3-0 or 3-1, TWO for winning 2-1, ONE for losing 2-3, ZERO for losing 1-3 or 0-3) • Sets ratio • Points ration • Head to Head result Appreciate the correction. Is there a place online where this information is published? I cannot find anything relevant on the WGP site.

Post Brazil match Karch is quoted saying the middles did a great job organizing the squad defensively. Can someone more familiar with the program clarify what he meant? Are the middles responsible for simply making sure the defensive game plan is followed or are the changing on the fly?

I would almost take the double sub for the defensive upgrade in the backrow too. Karsta isn't the greatest backrow player.
